Weeks 8-9: Denmark, Spain and a Belgian Hospital

... hotdog, which is eaten with both raw and fried (Asian-style dried) onions, remoulade, ketchup and pickles. It was fantastic and I'm really beginning to think I could have made this into a purely food-related blog... We arrived in Odense fairly late and walked, again through the rain, to meet Emil at the birth-house of Hans Christian Andersen. Emil and I rushed around this pretty awesome little museum. We were there for nearly an hour, but could easily have spent 2 leqrning about his ...

Back to my dutch family heritage

(Steve)

Before heading off on our trip, I contacted some of our relatives in Holland and they invited us to spend a few nights with them. So whilst in the Netherlands we stayed with two families and were treated very well, enjoying home cooked meals, fantastic dutch beer and good company. We first travelled to Boukoul to stay with Peter, Ingeborg (Dad's cousin) and their family Maud(14), Hugo(12) and Twan(10).
Arriving in Roermond late in the ...

Most horrible restaurant ever in SPA Belgium

During our stay in Spa we had the most scary, horrible, unpleasant experience ever in a restaurant.

The restaurant to avoid is "Le Bouchon Gourmand", the owner does not hesitate to insult customers, lock them into the restaurant if there is a dispute on the bill, and claim more money than is due.

See more on www.bouchon-gourmand.blogspot.com

Whew!!! Busy Day!!

... nice and made me feel good. Then, when I was cooking some dinner, she came up and gave me a blanket, sheet set, and some tea candles. She also has given Nil a wooden spoon, a strainer, and two dish towels for me. Isn't that sweet??? I thanked her tons and gave her a hug when she left. So now I have a few less items to buy to make my new place feel like home.

Well Nil just got home and she is going to eat a bit of food with Markus and ...

First Class Taught Alone = Success

One of the teachers that I assist couldn't be here at all this week, and he asked me if I felt comfortable taking over his class for the week. I said I would, and this weekend he emailed me some information about what to do and discuss in class.

Our topic today was "If you had the power to change the world, what would you change?" The students are to write their own first chapter of a book entitled "Ecotopia." Today we ...

Lean Green gives up the ghost

... They told us we were at the highest point in Belgium, which was somewhere in the Nature Park.

We decided to call it a day for the roadbook, and make a detour to just get into Luxembourg for fuel, and to make sure we 'did' all the countries.

Looking back that detour cost us some time, but did mean we visited Luxembourg, even if it was too dark to see it.
... on.

We stopped at one point, because the roadbook wasn't very clear, at which point Gaz and Charlotte came up behind us. They had been left behind by the V8s, as they were in a Series vehicle, so we said we'd stick with them.
At this point, Kieran noticed a strange noise from our engine, which was duly investigated by James. It was diagnosed as the fan belt tensioning pulley. But we didn't do anything about it at the time.
The kindness of strangers

... there was no way I could just ride on. As much for conversation as anything else, I asked for directions to the nearest campsite. Never has such a simple question produced such an energetic reponse. The bar was horseshoe-shaped, and barely fitted in the front part of the pub, so when people were sat around it, as now, its a squeeze to move around. Everyone around the bar had an opinion- which way to go, where to go, its too late, too cold, too far away. I ...

The cathedral and Charle Magne

... I couldn't stand all the long queue they formed, so I preferred to wait outside and visit Cologne all by myself. What a pretty city, well organized and shaped, keeping its calm even among hundreds of thousands peoples.
