... came from many years of difficulty.
But, before now, I had never been truly immersed in the language. In Paris, I
met many people who spoke English, but in the countryside, English is very
rare. (As a side note, I would like to add that the guidebook claims that many
pilgrim refuges are English friendly. Well, if they mean that the host can say “Hello”
and “Thank you”, they are correct, but I haven’t met a single proprietor ...

    And our mistaken nightstop

We filled up with gas and diesel before we moved north. We planned to go to Privas, but decided that the aire didn't suit us, so instead we would head to Boulieu les Annonay. It was a longer drive and it would give us the chance to charge the batteries. After 21 to 22 degrees yesterday, today is 10 degrees but not raining. We cruised all night, leaving Viviers at 6:15 pm last night and arriving in Vienne, just 32 km South of Lyon at 8:30 am this morning, having passed through seven locks. This morning was a walking tour of Vienne. Walking tours aren't always as easy as they should be because the French have a habit of letting their dogs poop wherever they like and not picking up after ...

... Stews request. I think the scallops, or maybe the wild boar and lemon tart were my favourites! Lemon meringue tart, Chocolate surprise and Tarte Tatin with the richest caramel sauce - also yummmmm. Not sure any of us really appreciated the froi gras that the region is known for! Duck or foie gras was on every menu we looked at in all the little restaurants... those that know me well know that's pretty much the only thing I won't eat! ...
