... came from many years of difficulty.
But, before now, I had never been truly immersed in the language. In Paris, I
met many people who spoke English, but in the countryside, English is very
rare. (As a side note, I would like to add that the guidebook claims that many
pilgrim refuges are English friendly. Well, if they mean that the host can say “Hello”
and “Thank you”, they are correct, but I haven’t met a single proprietor ...

... for the qualifying of the Bahrain GP. However, we had had a great drive up the mountains and were gifted with the most amazing sight of clouds blowing in and out of the valley. We were at cloud height of just over 3000 feet. The next morning we moved on to Boulieu les Annonay. Lovely hill village with a wonderful view. From the camping car carpark. Back in Vienne for an unplanned two night stay. Today is Good Friday and their token gesture was to have hot cross buns on the breakfast buffet. Interestingly Good Friday is not a public holiday, just another work or school day, however Sunday and Monday are public holidays. In fact Australia is one of the few countries in the world to take Good Friday as a public holiday. We left the ship at 8:00 am and peak hour traffic was not good either in ...

After 21 to 22 degrees yesterday, today is 10 degrees but not raining. We cruised all night, leaving Viviers at 6:15 pm last night and arriving in Vienne, just 32 km South of Lyon at 8:30 am this morning, having passed through seven locks. This morning was a walking tour of Vienne. Walking tours aren't always as easy as they should be because the French have a habit of letting their dogs poop wherever they like and not picking up after ...
