... but instead, I was still 11km away. So I had walked a full 36km, and I still had 11km to go. And really, I had 16km to go, because the road took a slightly longer route than the trail.

That last 16km were the hardest that I have ever walked in my life. When I realized how far I still had to go, I sat down under a tree and just cried. And, of course, as I sat down, a bird promptly took a **** on my shoulder. People say this is good luck, but at the moment, I thought that bird ...

... About ten minutes later a different lady from the tourist office came out and started to yell at me in rapid French. I told her that I did not understand so she said in English, “You cannot sit here. Come inside, send your message, then leave.” Her look and tone implied that I was a piece of trash she’d rather not deal with. I gave her my most glaring look and left. I munched ...

... It was a 25km hike from Avallon to Vezelay and at least 12 km was straight uphill. To pass the time, I sang songs out loud as I hiked. Now, I don’t know many songs that Disney princesses didn’t sing, so that’s what I went with. I found the opening song of Beauty and the Beast to be particularly apt.

I could see Vezelay from nearly 7km away, as it stands on a large hill. The basilica is by far the largest building around, and ...

... impossible to film in the bright sun. - and through a dirty windscreen!

As we dropped down into Le Puy the whole town was buried under a thick layer of fog- we couldn't see a thing!!! As we got under the fog it thinned a bit but not enough to see the statue of Notre Dame, made from guns captured at Sebastopol and the church on the ...
