Fun in France and Switzerland

... the tale of captivity of Francois Bonivard. Francois was chained to a pillar in the dungeon for 6 years. We had a glimpse of the Swiss Alps which we will have to cross this weekend! YIKES.

Weather is good…car is great….being out of America…..priceless!

Sorry No photos....the connection speed is very slow.......

Chateau Roche Pot

... in style. My highlight was seeing a pair of storks in their giant nest atop a tower. After that it was a short distance to Colmar and a hotel that actually had a kettle and access to an iron!! I was very happy. That night we had the best meal we've had in the Little venice section of Colmar..more about this town next time.

PS Forgot to mention there was an even bigger well at the citadelle....John very happy!! More sticks and stones dropped down!!

France! Sunday, July 18

... it and read it and saw that it told me the code to get inside the building and then the code for the safe and where the safe was. I opened the safe and found another envelope with my name and that had our room number and key. So we went to the room. We were happy to finally have a chance to shower and feel less grubby. Once we were feeling better, and had all of our things inside, we went to walk around a bit. We walked down the street and found a ...

Ups and downs,

... s someone else doing it too. The scenery varies between narrow gorge and wider embankments leading to dams every few miles. There are castles and churches everywhere. Its very pretty but after the first twenty or so. I needed to make a bit more progress, my initial target came up about 12.00. So we had lunch in a pretty glade by the river and she turned off to geocache and I pushed on. It was an even narrower gorge and quite pretty. I ...

Regensberg better than ever but time to move on.

... hostel isn't really busy enough to be fun. It seems to be rather informal in terms of knowing who stays and rely's on room key codes to control access. The kitchen is a fridge, microwave and kettle but there is a TV and about eight really comfortable chairs (this is a lot by youth hostel standards). Tonight I'm the only one in the room although I've seen another couple emerge from a room at the end. This is last unofficial hostel in Germany so its back to the institutions.

Good Friday out on the road.

... Lots of people out for the day. There was also a rather neat powerless ferry that used the current to pull itself across while attached to a dolly on a wire suspended across the river. There were now people sunbathing. Regensberg is as fine as I remembered it; a wonderful combination of river parks and history. I was looking for an independant hostel and have found it. Its very quiet but there's only a micrwave to cook with and I have very lttle ...

Run to the hills.

A short day today in theory just to Bescanson roughly 30km away. I stayed firmly put in the laundry room until bedtime last night. Its cold out there and I saw why people do caravans and motorhomes. Even with some extra dressing I was still a bit cold; the mat was on a lumpy bit too. Woke at 5am and sat it out til 7am. It was very misty but with a blue sky on the way; pretty but means the tent gets packed wet. As the sun came up a bit more the mist burned off, the cold ...

On to Alsace and Lorraine

... from the local pink sandstone with 142 metre high filigree spire which although built in flat ground in the centre of the city, can be seen from most of Alsace. Like almost every other cathedral and church in France it is the Cathedral of Notre Dame. May 30 Strasbourg After a disastrous night trying in vain to find somewhere to stay in Nancy (the city was booked out) and driving until after 8pm before we found a hotel with a spare room (we started looking at 3pm ...

My Second Trip to Besancon, Oct. 2006

... of both of these musuems I decided to go search for some lunch, which since I was in a large plaza I was able to find a reasonable place to eat. For my lunch I ordered steak that came with green beans and a potato au Dauphine (or au gratin for the rest of us) and for desert I ordered a rasberry tort/cake which was out of this world. With my meal I drank a glass of Cote de Rhone wine and with my desert I orderd an expresso. As I ate my dinner I ...

A long complicated HH to Besancon with Iru

... way direct Provence (orange)... the way was rough since it was horribly rainy and stormy! Once there we were so hungry it was time for a lunch break... during that time we noticed 2 estonian truck driver and Irma started talking with them... one was quite free and the other started convincing him to pick us. Which happened and we got our ride all down to Spain!
