... three drops of rain in the air that we didn't bother about and disappeared. Last night it rained, after we were safely back at the hotel and it didn't matter, and I think it may tonight too. But tomorrow has showers predicted, and for the next 10 days of our walking it looks a bit unsettled! The beautiful September weather has finished, and we may be getting October showers. We will ...

... is also a feature! And we have had our explore - a small and old town. A former Gallo-Roman capital (Elusa). The cathedral or church depending on which sign you read, was built by the Benedictines (who founded a priory here in the 10th century), and finished in 1521. It is the church of Saint-Luperc. Our itinerary had mistakenly said it was 25 kms, but happily a while ago when we were checking the days we realised that our 2 books said it was in fact 17 or so....excellent! And we reached the small town of Montréal du Gers at about 1 o'clock, and had lunch on a park bench there, and a coffee/hot chocolate, and a look at the town before walking another km to our ...

... a look round. This is a living town, not just a picture showpiece, though of course there are the narrow streets, and again a gigantic cathedral and cloisters. I think I remember reading that many of the cathedrals in this region were built during the Avignon papacy, when they were near the centre of the church and its largesse! So now it's down time and kindle time till dinner, having explored, and ...

We set off fairly leisurely this morning, partly because it was 19 kms (20 actually) and also as tonight is a Chambres d'Hôte and we know they usually don't want you before 3. There was a fog all over in the morning, and we were so lucky that this was today, as we had yesterday clear and beautiful to admire Lectoure and the surrounding views, and also the day before as we arrived. This morning it was quite a blessing ...
