Prakovce, Kosický, Slovakia thailon... shot glass was full I only did half, so when it got filled again... which it always did.... there wasn't as much to drink! It is the culture here to show off what has been produced on your own land. We drank a lot of homemade wine/shots... and eat a lot of fruit grown on their orchards. Kyle was a trooper and handled the family well. We left Slovakia the next morning with everyone impressed with Kyle's drinking skills and calling him a "true Slovak!"<br><br>KnT<br>
Kosice, Slovakia knt... It was pretty creepy and arguably unsanitary as the bones and other debris is strewn about everywhere in the basement. We were more than happy to get out to the fresh air and head once again to our cozy little organic restaurant for dinner. We had a couple of drinks, some fabulous pizza and some tea for about 10 euros. We could definitely get used to this. But alas, tomorrow we must head to Poland for about a week, first stop, Krakow... darn ;) Megan and Kevin
Kosice, Slovakia meganandkevin... park in the High Tatras Mountains near the border with Poland. The mountains are popular for skiing in the winter months and teeming with more of the outdoorsy types in summer looking to stretch their legs on a hike, cycle, rock climb or mountain trek. We also felt the need to stretch our legs and sniff some of the fresh mountain air so we decided to set off on a 6-7 hour 20-ish km hike through the mountains. We set off in the morning with our day packs ...
Kosice, Slovakia roamingmonk... we collected ourselves and headed to the nearest place with an internet point, sent the emails to cancel the phone etc and then decided to head into the center of town, our aim, find some food, net access and start hitching again (we had arrived at about midday). The usual practice of walking around the city then followed, that is spot any alternative peoples, question them about squats et al and then find these places. This is how we met Alexander and Zana ...
Kosice, Kosice, Slovakia david.kairis... be with us and to tour around the Slovakian countryside with us...to share time with us. First night there, we are part of a huge dinner table full of people that are there just to meet us. I go to bed each night filled with amazement of this feeling of connectivity. We visit Spisske Podhradie, the small town my father spent the first 12 years of his life in. I never thought I'd ever get to this town...I'd heard about it my whole life...and esp ...
Presov, Slovakia rawhideone... it's name this way - absolutely no suffering involved if you go the regular way. Beating your own path through mud, nettles, brambles, small streams and what we suspected to be ecclesiastical fecal matter, we felt like we had actually achieved something when we reached the top. The church didn't even seem all that special, but the views of town were quite nice. From Levoca, we went to Spissky Hrad, Slovakia's largest castle ruins, and ...
Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia mrconfused... Albert immediately said! There was some sort of Catholic pilgrimage/festival in Levoca the next few days so we decided to head on. Thousands of people started arriving and the town wasn´t looking so quiet anymore. Before we left the area though, we wanted to check out Spis Castle. After about seven bus rides through the countryside and ending up back in Levoca - Alberts map reading skills...... - we went to a town where we could hike up to ...
Levoca, Slovakia albycindy... paintings from Shakespearian drama, but for its performances. Porgy & Bess, with an international cast, played the following weekend. Tickets $6. While exploring the back lanes I discovered the British Consulate shacked up in Jacab's Palace. This building, built from discarded stones from the cathedral and once the seat of the Czechoslovakian presidency, is an elaborate piece of kitsch and my favourite building in the city. With its green opaque and ochre ...
