      ... must end, and so did my visit to my native country. Getting onto the plane was pretty weird - traveling halfway to Russia and still feeling like you're "going home". Hearing some familiar (though unintelligible) Russian on the plane, and Latvian on the mini-bus.

      Minus ten did suddenly feel very cold, though! So I had to dig my new gloves out of my luggage. I'll tell you all about my daily commute through the snow in my next blog, as promised!

      ... leaving Holland and entering Belgium, the flat gets replaced with rolling hills that hide the little villages. The highlight of the day was the town of Maastracht, with its lovely old town square, Basilica from the 600's, and town gate built on Roman foundations. It was also a good shopping town so Denise would have been happy to spend more time there.

      Arrived late into Luxembourg and looking forward to visiting Trier ...

      ... unexpected views. Despite raining the entire time in the country/city it still looked so beautiful, with massive cliffs and greenery, whilst from our hotel room in the Hilton Hotel we could see the forest covered in clouds!

      I would highly recommend a weekend visit ...

      ... Thankfully we found a service area on the approach to the pass, designed to frustrate all concerned. It was a sharp left across the carriageway to the filling station and then there was no parking that side of the road for caravans, so we had to return to the main road in the opposite direction and do a U turn into the service area car park on the other side of the road.
