... a type of profiterole with their fruit salad I had semifreddo (yum). A long lunch in a courtyard in Piedmont is not a bad way to spend an afternoon. We weaved our way back to catch the bus back to Asti. Pity the passengers who had to share the bus with our rowdy mob. There are cars with horns blaring and shouting in the street - Juventus drew with Madrid so they are in the Champions League final. Happy Italian football fans ...

From Susa we drove to the town of Asti. Yes, this is the town that is know for Asti Spumante, a wine way too sweet for us. But, what we didn't realize is that this region is known for some of the very best red wines in all of Italy.

Oh, and driving the car has been just fine around here. This is the third year I have driven on the right side of the road, and it is pretty easy. Tonight on the way to the restaurant the roads were very very narrow, and we had to avoid people both walking and biking as well as cars coming in the opposite direction. ... Keith is the alternate for the team, but his dog is the "white dog" for the small height which means he gets to run the course before the competition starts so that people can check how it runs. Keith has done some stunning runs, but it is his reaction to that which is memorable. Such a nice man who is just stoked at having the opportunity to try out these courses.
