249 Esplanade Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia, 4655, 61-7-4128-1555
After a day of pleasant driving through some nice countryside, including Wollemi National Park, we arrived the next evening in Dubbo, where we were too late to stay at the open zoo that night, but managed to book for the following evening. This is unusual, as it's usually booked for months ahead, but we got a cancellation. The first night we looked for a motel, and while we were contemplating the price, we were offered a free upgrade to a room with spa (bubble bath). Unfortunately Andy though...
Brisbane, Australia andyjo... rocks and saw a Stingray. It was pretty steep and you had that sense of god don’t let me fall, not cos the impact would kill you but the Tiger sharks were probably waiting!!

Lunch was a picnic at Eli Creek. This creek is the second purest in the world. It was spectacular to see, if not freezing cold to dip in. The tide was so strong thou it was impossible to swim up stream; you just floated along, and then got out ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia karendixon... com.a u and I'll be looking for one to ban whaling.
Once we got back to the marina we meet up with Sandra and Katja (Swiss Chics) who were going on the afternoon trip. We got back to the hostel and just crashed out for half hour and had a quick nap before tackling our chores. The rest of the day has been spent doing a combination of washing, research were to go next and for me alot of typing. It can take me hours to write one ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia gaz-lj... and lighting would strike it and turn it into little glass rocks. I think he was yanking our chain because I got bored sitting on the beach and wandered over there and found no cool looking bits of glass but it was still a nice walk. Adam and a few others were doing some Dune Jumping, basically jumping of the edge of a dune and falling softly and safely to the sand below, I was just cameraman. There was a little confusion over what time Craig told us to leave ...
Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia gaz-lj... how he was going to drive over it very fast in order not to get stuck. The roads certainly are tricky being completely ungraded dry deep sand with big ruts and unexpected dips and ridges. The ride was very bumpy, seat belts were an absolute necessity as we were thrown this way and that, the three little girls on the back seat were screeching and screaming much of the time and over all had a lovely time.

Finally we arrived at lake McKenzie which ...

Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia ctompkins11... is made up completely by sand, it has no rocks and is constantly moving. How far it moves depends on the weather and the landscape changes year to year, it has tropical rainforests, long beaches and a different climate to the rest of oz. We saw the shipwrecked 'Maheno' which got caught up in a cyclone on it's way to Japan. We had a buffet lunch at one of the resorts on the island before going to visit lake ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia pixelchick... one also had a sanddune which the boys had fun climbing up and running down. Next stop was "Central Station" which named because it's kinda in the centre of the island - intersection of a few main roads. Jeremy, Ethan and Elijah did a short walk along a pretty creek through a bit of rainforest area while I stayed with Denzel who had just fallen asleep in the car. When they got back we had lunch and then set off for our last ...
Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia drownsroundaus... followed a group of whales swimming along the coastline as the sun was rising. Was pretty amazing! We then drove to Lake Mackenzy, a freshwater lake in the middle of the island. It was beautiful (photos to follow) and I took a dip, Nat refused as it was pretty chilly (it is winter after all).

We got back to base safe and sound, got some free pizza to apologise for the broken vehicle and then quickly ran off to catch our overnight bus up to Airlie Beach.
Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia natandaidan... the rusted wreck of the Maheno, an old freighter washed ashore by a cyclone in 1935.

As the tour concluded back at Kingfisher Bay the rain again teemed down, making it an interesting exercise trying to get around the resort area without looking like drowned rats. A karaoke competition was on at the Dingo Bar, rather comprehensively taken out by Dave our minstrel from Chicago, while a sizeable gathering had a quiet but entertaining night in in the lounge area of our cabin.
