... There were a lot of stops along the way with scenic overlooks, hiking spots and restaurants. We had a German lunch of bread and sausage at the cafe next to Lake Mummelsee, and did a short 2 km hike on a trail leading to a waterfall. The second stop into the Black Forest region was the Maulbronn Abbey, a Monastery built sometime in the 1300s. The pamphlet we got mentioned it was over 800 years old, but I'm getting confused as some components were a little younger than that, like 600 years old. In any case, it was incredible. They had some descriptions of the masonry that was done to construct it. I just can't imagine the hard work ...

Our first stop on the way to the Black Forest region was Heidelberg, at the suggestion of our neighbor. What an adorable old German city. Where we parked, you could see Schloss Heidelberg looming above the city. Very cool. ... other. We have been very lucky not too crowded. Can't imagine what it is like when all the river cruises are operating. Trier is our favourite city for sure. Great Roman and Middle Age structures and as we were told the oldest city in Germany. The first picture is the Bunker of Trier. We found this as we were wandering. It looked as if it was made a thousand years ago but as you can read was used in the 2 world war. Truly amazing. ...
