Last One!

... Completely forgot we saw the farmers feeding them corn this weekend. There's a lot of corn grown on the island, but I think it's mainly to feed to cows. They have drying racks and dry whole corn stalks, then they toss the stalks in the field. Also, for the first time today, saw some cows eating hay. So, my theory on why to beef tastes different is totally whack.

See you in the States!

Let's Talk About Food Man

... Now, this part may come as a shock to some of you......I'M TIRED OF POTATOES!!!!!!!!!! I have always claimed that I could live on meat, bread, and potatoes, but enough is enough already. Can I get some asparagus please! I can hear it now ...gasp... groan ... omg ... did she hit her head when she fell?

So the steak. The steak has been great. The flavor seems a little different from steak in the states. Not sure if it's ...

The good, the bad, and the ugly

... off the water. We made quite a mess. Thankfully, the water line is just for the cows, and we did not take out the water supply to a small town. I knew the day was going too good.

Anyway, not many pictures today, just staying in town tonight. If I take anything interesting when we go out to dinner, I'll update. Hopefully tomorrow will go a lot better.

What a day!

... trip back to Angra to buy souvenirs, but didn't have any luck. All of the stores are closed on Sunday.

First stop was the Gruta do Algar do Carvao, which is another cave on the island. It is actually the chimney of a volcano! The first pictures you see below are of the exit of the chimney which was beautiful. All moss and fern covered rock with water dripping in from ...

Tourist down! Tourist down!

I've survived the international flights, I survived the bullfight, but I have no survived myself. We all know that I'm a klutz, so the random bumps and bruises here and there are par for the course. However, I stepped it up a notch today. Fell down a rock wall, on my ass, in the rain, in a cow pasture, somersaulted over my head, and sprained my ankle. Not as bad as the last ...

Another Day on the Island

... boat ride on Saturday!

Almost forgot a few things

There is a small town outside near our job site. We parked the car along the road in the afternoon to do our site visit, and on our way back we saw all these people gathered around the church. Found out it was the nightly bull fighting, so we decided to stay and check it out. Basically what happens is they walk the bull ...

First Day of Work

... we're going to drive around a little bit tomorrow.

There was a big crowd in Lajes when we left this afternoon and they were getting ready for the daily bullfight. It's not really bullfighting, but more like pamplona's running of the bulls. Thankfully we got through before the pulls charged the street!

From Continental Portugal to the Island!

Had a half a day left in Lisbon today. I decided to take it easy, sleep in, and ride the double decker bus for the morning. Not too many pictures today, because the bus didn't stop very often, and when it did, you only saw about half of the item of significance. Didn't see much different from what I saw earlier in the week. Took a cab to the airport, and had a little ...

I'm on a Boat

8/31

Today was the first day of B day classes, which means we have had one day of each class day, A and B. Our A day is the long one, with 3 classes, while we only have 1 class on B days. All the teachers seem really cool and into their specific field. Today we had econ at 8 AM, then went to the gym after. The weather hasn't been great lately, mainly gray and a little chilly. After our A classes yesterday, we hung ...

... churches next to the big catholic ones where they practice the templar version of catholicism.  also, there are festivals and traditions that are only practiced here that come from templar traditions, like the guarding of crowns by certain townsfolk.  it's fascinating and ken has made a study of all this so he is unbearably intriguing to talk to.  after the carriage ride, we meet his family and he takes us to different churches, mini churches and even ...
