Porto, asleep by the river.

... bad. Port is a fortified wine that is mixed with Brandy to halt the fermentation, so in many of the less expensive wines the balance is poorly done and it tastes and smells like off Brandy. However, if you can splurge on a glass of vintage or lbv port, you'll be pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the nicer ones quite a bit, but as it's very sweet it's something I could only enjoy a bit at a time.

After a few days in Porto I was fortunate enough to meet someone on ...

Porto is like Lisbon, only sweeter and fortified!

... are. The distilleries were surprisingly accessible, with all of them offering tours of the caves and tastings, for a fee of course. We were only able to visit a couple (Porto seems to close for 2 hours during lunch) before catching our evening flight out, but we are glad to have tried some new and very interesting kinds of port. Thank you Portugal, we will be back to see more.

... plastic bottles around the edges. They were obviously expecting stormy weather. They left great heaps of rubbish all over the site.

We visited Aveiro the nearest town which lived up to its publicity we took the one photograph of their famous boats which was all the brochure had to offer.

We have become a novelty attraction as there are no other British around. After the activities of the weekend we moved on.

Interesting City and Miles of Golden Sands

... We arrived safely thanks to these total strangers. He advised us not to take the caravan into Porto.

The next day we went on the bus to Porto and discovered why. The 8 kilometer journey took about an hour as the bus travelled in ever decreasing circles through streets normally impassable to a bus without the use of a horn and the assistance of disgruntled lorry and car drivers who had to backup. On arriving in Porto feeling shaken and stirred we discovered a ...

Hardcore Boogie Boarding

... they were hardcore). Good thing we opted for the boogie boards because once in the water, the waves were massive and the undertow was insanely strong. Our hostel was amazing and the owner was chill and helped us map out some cool surf and kite spots along the coast.

Our meals were : a tuna salad (a can of tuna, unrippened tomatoes and lettuce) and pork (a peice of pork, rice and french fries.) Long story short we were more then enthusiastic to get on the road in the morning to leave Porto behind

... to the Atlatic coast for 232km, 139 miles, to the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. It gives you a nice scenic view of rural Portugal and Spain as you make your way through small farms and villages as well as some very secluded forests and small mountains. The Portugues route is only travelled by a few hundred people every year and I only met two other travellers on the road for the first few days. The route is relatively easy to follow as there ...

The coast of Portugal

... a couple of years before, they had held the World wave jumping for sailboards here. So this was the place to stay. To go to the beach, you needed a tag and you were only allowed to stay on the bit of beach that your campground owned. Very strange. So, we went, but there were flags out stopping people from swimming. Being an Aussie, I gave it a go. The rip was huge so I came back in after about thirty seconds. There was ...
