Destination 399

[Arrival from Ferry]

After a night with more than just a fiew hours of sleep on the ferry from Greece, I arrived early in the morning around 7:00am scared facing the heavily industrialized City of Brindisi! The first sight of Italy was not the most charming - hopefully to be changed soon. Therefore, after arrival and one of the quickest Immigragtion check (1 Minute), immediate departure on motorbike to explore more charming places.

See next entry.
Brindisi, Puglia, Italy pajasAfter spending one more nite in Naples, we boarded the train and headed for Brindisi. There we would catch the overnite ferry to Corfu, Greece. I had been to Corfutown, a couple of times, but this, too, was Dennis' first time, and I was anxious to show him around.

We both thoroughly enjoyed the train ride. Intially, we were in a compartment with a young couple that made-out ...

Brindisi, Puglia, Italy pandajax365... so we may
have forgotten some bits!)

While we had a lecture from our new friends Mauricio and Grazia about how we should watch our pockets in the seaport city of Bari (our next destination) and made it sound like a den of thieves, they should maybe have warned us that the city is so choked with traffic you couldn´t actually get into the city, let alone try and park a campervan. Having been in Italy ...
Ostuni, Puglia, Italy roamingmonk... was for 24th OCTOBER, not September! So I had to wait another couple of hours in the port, and once again found myself in Igoumenitsa at 1.00 a.m. for the 2.30 ferry across to Italy, but to Brindisi. I still havn't seen Igoumenitsa in daylight.
Brindisi, Puglia, Italy travellerbruce... over the harbour and beach; and yesterday we spent the day in Lecce. Lecce is the capital of the region - Apulia; the heel of the boot of Italy. Lecce is of ancient origin; the area was occupied in prehistoric time by the Messapli. In later times it became a Roman Colony of great importance; after the barbarian invasions, it passed into the hands of the Normans until 1860 when it was became part of ...
Brindisi, Italy ronnied... we walked off. We came back after an hour, see. Good old Bob. We went to a few ticket offices, just in case Bob had sold us a dummy, and then found the Interrail place. We had been told be several sources, including the Interrail web site and the back of the ticket itself, that we would only have to pay Port Tax of six Euros. What we were to find was, of course, this was complete and utter bollocks. It turns out that the one company that offered this ...
Brindisi, Italy foolsgold... the eggs. Francesca and her husband, Cosimo have spent the last 33 years restoring the place and filling it with the old farm implements common to the district. Most of the rooms have large vaulted ceilings and have very thick walls, which keep the house cool. We were given a quick tour of the house and sat down to a meal of chicken, pizza, cold meats, and lots of their own red wine. The wine was delicious and I had too much. Which made for a rather "disturbed night!!" The rooms ...
