      Train Time Musings

... 5 hours to go. The train splits when we cross over into Sicily, so we have to ensure we're in the right half of the train, which currently I don't think we are. The best thing about travelling is that your problems are no longer about life, but about gritty things, like how do I get food in this country? or in our case now, am I on the right train? Discovering Maratea & South Coast

... Maratea. This statue is the second largest statue of Christ in the world, second only to the one in Rio de Janero. The approach is so steep that a man-made set of switch-backs had to be built to enable car traffic to get to the top. At the top, in addition to the statue of Christ and several kiosks for trinkets and tourist memorabilia, is the Church of San Biagio. This old structure, with its simple and pretty interior, served the ancient community of ...

Another 30 kms down the road and he freeway began to go through the mountainous terrain rather than around them. We counted 28 fairly lengthy tunnels on our journey south. By the time we were 50 kms south of Naples, we ...

Good morning from the always lovely decks of the Milena. This will be our second, and last night in Acciaroli. Tonight I am going to make dinner for Jacques and Marina. Jacques requested pork chops, and Marina said there is a good butcher in Acciaroli. Good, I thought, because I need four chops, around two inches thick each. Around 10:00a.m., Marina and I headed out to do the food shopping for dinner, before it got too hot. What fun we had, even though ...

... junk area. We found the fruit and vegetable market.... But to our shock.... The rest of the market was g o n e ! "NO, I can not believe this !" We both sighed in amazement. With :-( :-( we both slowly walked away from what we thought was going to be a wonderful experience. In town we caught up with Jacques, who could not find what he wanted either. As it was getting close to 1:00p.m., all the shops were closing for lunch and afternoon siesta, so after going to ...
