Sadly we learnt that the city population halved during the plague, and the place was then taken over shortly afterward. Leading to bloodshed. ... the evening & went for a walk to find a nice restaurant. Walked past an Irish pub which was packed full of blokes watching the World Cup. Felt like being back in Chch. This is another beautiful place- we stayed in the old port. Which has lots of yachts & boats. Didn't explore much as just stopping here for the night then driving to Monaco ...
