Today's ride was characterized by a variety of road conditions. First a highway with broad shoulders, then a tiny back road with no traffic through olive groves. Next we had to cross the industrial section of Taranto on a major highway with intermittent shoulders, but it dropped us right into the old section of ...

We ultimately decided to head north and spend our last week in Puglia along the coast. We finished the day in a hotel where we were their only guests and momma made the three course dinner. ... the deep blue waves crashing below. The staff was very polite and attentive and the generous portions of food were delicious. Shortly after being served, a saxophonist appeared from a balcony and began serenading the guests as swallows chased their shadows against the cave wall. The evening was absolutely breathtaking! I am so glad we took a chance on this place because it is one of the most incredible experiences of my life and a fitting way to celebrate our first year ...

... and neither of us knew how to speak any Greek at all. We had to wait around for a while to catch a bus into town before changing and boarding a long distance one to Athens, which would take about 6 hours.

All in all we had caught a metro, a train, a car, a ferry and two buses and it took no less than 32 hours! It was our biggest travel day to date but we would do it again in a heartbeat! With island adventures on our horizon, we were happier than a Greek in a souvlaki ...
