          Day one has been weird. I got lucky and united booked me for first class on the flight to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.           ... is garbage strewn all over the sidewalk opposite and a maze of telephone and electric wires crisscrossing overhead. Fortunately we are expected and are assigned two rooms on the ground floor. Probably rooms on a higher floor would have been more attractive, but we are only here for a night, so it’s not a big problem.           ... had left Tuesday morning, they got seen Tuesday afternoon (told they had hernias), and put on the schedule to get operated on Thursday, and we headed back home Friday morning. I had to leave them on their own Wednesday and help translate, but I told them wherever they wanted me to be Thursday I would be there. I could tell all 4 were nervous.
