Os ...

Leaving Art & Thurza

After a lovely couple of days with Art & Thurza Comben when on Sunday the drive over from Christchurch was fine and sunny we found a Vintage Motor Cycle run from Britbits in Iford with a Wurzal lookalike group playing live and singing "Drink up thee Cider Garge", gorgeous and in beautiful weather we got to Crewkerne in time for a late lunch.

Monday Lona & Thurza were dropped off in Yeovil to shop while Art ...

A perfect storm, or how I got to Lyme Regis

... onto another block, very close, but the water was fine, then Im past,
must go north so as not to get sucked into the tide for the race, and out I popped the other side, heading up to chesil beach recognising wyke regis, the wind was picking up and so was my spead, touching 6 knts
I punched in the new route, and west bay was now coming down in the eta, from 2100 down to 1720, this was good, wind still picking up.

FIRST MAJOR CAMP AFTER NO FIXED ABODE

... in the future. Our son and family left us on the Monday to return home as they both had work on the Tuesday but next time we shall plan it better so we can spend more time together. How quiet and strange it was after they had left we missed them terribly. We took to our bikes on the Tuesday, first time we had ridden for 5 weeks, and yes it was tough going. We thought we would cycle to "Tyneham" to visit the deserted village there. Well ...

Out of the blue; a tricky decision.

... to be the parents of the landlord; a rather civilised arrangement for seeing their grandchild in easy chunks. The landlord and his wife arrive to announce that the pub is basically without electricity or gas and none of the phones work. They ask what I'm going to do; I really want to ride and to give up within three days seems lame. On the other hand I do have to get there and parts of the route are much higher than this campsite. Given that the tent will ...

All Change....

Another week passes but what progress ! The bus itself has changed beyond recognition inside. Developments elsewhere too, more time commitments and I'm feeling frazzled. I went to Kent last week for a work commitment. Arrived back on Friday at about 7pm then rushed over for the meeting. It seems Alan had been there for a while, working on the bus. We have an engine mounting problem, but he's sorting it out. It would seem that he didn't take my letter too badly, but during the ...

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

Tue 26/2/2008 Travelled to Bournemouth via Waterloo station. Walked along the seaside and saw the sunset. Felt weird being on the beach in a coat, scarf and beanie!! I then explored the town. Studied for the test tomorrow, just a little bit nervous. Expenses 85.60 lunch, dinner, 2 nights accom.

Wed 27/2/2008 Travelled in to Bournemouth ...

Off to Switzerland

Way back in 1973 my wife and I were living in Hull, East Yorkshire,
from where we set off in our tiny Datsun Cherry loaded with camping
gear to look at 'The Continent'. We went via Dover ferry to Belgium,
Luxembourg, France & Germany to Switzerland. We camped beside Lake
Thun, at Gwatt and after a few days respite decided to go over the
Grimsel and Furka passes into Italy, then ...

Who's idea was this?

... over is, Mummy Granny and Granddad pushing a huge English type baby pram to the top at about the same level as we were. We usually try and end walking at around 4-5pm and then try and find someplace to stay and to eat. Well, yesterday Paul decided that after reading the map that we needed to divert to a village called Portesham. The village itself was uneventful, but the final leg to get there was the highlight of our day. We were within about 3 blocks of the village roads (we could see ...
