... the way either going there or coming back. To hell with walking from Paleohora.

Rested up in Chania for a day and then onto Rethymno. Ankle back to normal. But my troubles haven’t completely gone away. I have developed a rash on my lower back ( Shingles the doctor says as my immune system is way down). Now have some medication ( very expensive) and instructions to rest, eat and stay out of the sun for a week. So much ...

... two restaurants gave us raki that could have been confused for vodka, this time the raki was smooth and almond flavored, perfect for sipping as we gazed out over the harbor hustle and bustle. After dinner we wandered through the streets and alleys within the old city wall. It is a great place to people watch and e architecture is beautiful. A note about restaurants. We awoke late this morning still a little tired after our late arrival last night. I was just able to sync yesterday's post. Our hotel is an old Venetian building that has been beautifully renovated. We had the best yogurt I've ever had along with a huge variety of other items for breakfast in the charming courtyard. After breakfast we walked along the waterfront of the old Venetian harbor out to the light house to admire the ...

... war cemetery. Not sure how he would have defended the bay. Don't think it was a wise decision on his part. Anyway the Germans were never going to land there so guess he was saved the embarrassment of having to defend it. Cemetery closed due to spraying. Not a good day for seeing what I had planned to see. I did manage to go around the back of the cemetery via the beach and have a look though so all ...

... trail. As a result of our late departure, we had the hike almost entirely to ourselves. While we had heard the trip was incredibly crowded and hot, we saw no more than a few dozen hikers and a couple of donkeys. The first 2 hours were mostly down through shady groves of Cyprus pines which leveled out at about 400 meter above sea level. After learning from a pair of German hikers that the boat left at 5:30 rather than 5:45, we quickened our pace through the mostly ...
