... Mt Ida 2456 m ) that are close to the coast so there are no rivers or lakes on the island. We had a long drive to Knossos over 2 hours and stopped at a Taverna on the way. The Taverna also sold petrol. The palace of Knossos was the capital of Minoan Crete . It is the inspiration for the Minotaur. According to legend King Minos of Knossos was given a magnificent white bull to sacrifice to the god Poseidon but decided to keep it. This enraged Poseidon who punished the king ...

... I did the hardest bit. Very windy though and sleeping out was not that pleasant.

Finally it was a walk east around the coast to Elafonisi. It was meant to take 5-6 hours. Well 9 hours later, with a very swollen and sore ankle, I made it. A lady from the tavern came running out during all this, her sole purpose to inspect the car next to me. It's fine, I told her. She was relieved.

I ordered way too much food again. The lady seemed hurt when I didn't finish it. I still got free dessert and a serving of that liquor again; must be a Cretan thing.

I made it to a gas station and took off for Elafonisi. I'm ...

The one day of the year that it rained

... a monastery, and did have a bit of an olive oil tasting, but did not see olive mills, vineyards, or any wine/raki tasting, nor did we get to Rethymnon. It was unclear if it was a complete schedule change (from our request to change days), or due to the intense rain that we could not get to what was planned. The guide was very good, but lunch in a restaurant was a bit different from what we ...
