What Happened in Spain Part II

... in our program - the beach. Yep, the beautiful, white sandy beaches of Cadiz, the most ancient city in Spain.
We had a fun train ride there - Amanda, Jen, Claire, Shannon, Alice, Hedi, Emily, Lizzy, Emily P., Joanne, Aaron, Ian, and Reid. I played a card game called Big 2 and got flicked in the forehead by Ian when I lost, no mercy. Apparently luck was not on my side that morning because at the end of that train ride, I still had a red welt ...

Day with the Host Family

... and Cameron Diaz in it. I hope they get a part! Lunch was interesting and kind of like eating in a Chinese restaurant as the plates just kept coming! After lunch we said goodbye to the sons and continued walking and finally ended up back at the ship but not before taking a rest in the Plaza DE Espana across from the ship. When we were there the park cat ladies came by and fed the wild cats who were pretty friendly. Great ending to a very nice day!

Sherry Tasting and the Andalusian Horses

... of the sweetest sherry called "Nectar" for 8 Euro. I really didn’t like their regular sherry though. They were pretty cool though. When celebrities or royalty come visit, they have them sign a barrel of Tio Pepe instead of signing a guestbook! And they have a family of mice that are sherry connoisseurs. One of the distillery ...

Dancing horses

... show was actually really good - she just got very bored, very quickly. you see one horse dance you've seen them all...Mike took her outside to play in the courtyard. The arena is set in a beautiful garden with a fountain. They had a ton of fun running around the garden and I thoroughly enjoyed the dancing horse show. There are 8-12 horses and horsemen who come out in the arena and do the most amazing horse dances all to beautiful spanish music. It is ...

... getting some dessert we headed back to the hotel early with our serious lack of sleep. The next morning we got going around 8 when our trip headed to the outskirts of Barcelona to go “cava” (champagne) tasting. We were skeptical about going champagne tasting so early in the morning but it ended up being a great trip. The winery was really cool and interesting and the area was beautiful. Then we went up to the top of Montserrat, a huge mountain with a ...

... sailing ships, hemmed in by the larger Spanish and French fleets. According to the historic sign here the reason that we won was that the French commander, Villeneuve, who had the British trapped, decided that his fleets should turn around and be ready to sail back to Cadiz as soon as the battle was over. It was while they were carrying out this manoeuvre that Nelson was able to attack and rout the other two fleets. We are all ...

The Cadiz carnaval

... where we bought a few cans of the Cruzcampo beer and a 1.5 L bottle of Tinto de Verano - a type of cheap red wine with lemonade. We went to see the pier with the Castillo de San Sebastian, the Castillo de Santa Catalina, the cathedral, the old town and the beautiful Parque Genoves with waterfalls and parrots, and it was pretty much everything, so we went to the famous la Caleta beach and enjoyed ourselves there.

To my surprise, the beach was full of people ...

a video! (audio is terrible tho)

... added to the experience. We're officially 5 hours ahead of East Coast time now. We've had to forward our clocks 1 hour 5 out of the 6 nights we've been sailing. It's pretty rough, but we'll be on Spain time when we get there. Barrett doesn't like it; its the first time in his life that he's ever been the last one out of bed, complaining to be left to sleep a little bit more. *wink* ... the times they are'a changin'.... Ok. I better go do some work now. I hope you have a great day!

... hotel, checked in, and had lunch. Then only about 15 people went on the tour while many more people went to the beach (which was very windy so they didn't enjoy it too much!). Our tour guide was recently a student from Poland studying in Cadiz. We started off with a bus tour in the new part of the city to the old part of the city. We went to the Catedral and the Catedral museum. The Catedral was interesting ...

... It was interesting. They don't sing but it was neat to be able to understand some of mass in another language. After that we walked around the city some more and headed back to the Italian place for lunch. At this point we split up, Bo and I headed out to the Plaza de Espana and around some of the city we hadn't explored yet. It was a lot of fun. We headed back to Cadiz and went to sleep. The next day we headed to Arcos de Frontera. It was a small town, with all ...
