Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

Saw the great church, had some fun, and decided that night we were going to complete our dare of sleeping in a cardboard house. She stalled suddenly and unexpectedly; the engine just stopped, leaving us freewheeling downhill. But as luck would have it, and you cannot get much luckier than this, we came to rest on the forecourt of a small mechanical workshop. Unluckily, and incredibly frustratingly, the extremely well-meaning young man inside was ...

... s Hike: I primarily walked along the promenade by the Lake for about an hour and a half. The weather was sunny but cool. Found lots of climbing roses and other beautiful flowers along the way. Spotted a lovely lakefront villa for sale. The front wrought iron fence was lined with white rose topiary trees. A Mercedes sports car was in the garage…..might be a clue as to the price of the villa. Found a very old stone church up on a hill, with a bell tower. ...
