... phone calls, found a dentist and tooth duly repaired. Then to the Post Office, supposedly to collect 2 parcels from Aus., of Boomer spares. No such luck! No parcels! Helpful staff tried lots of options, then "come back tomorrow" and "fill out a complaint form"!!!! Lunch, then looked at the "black" Gothic cathedral of Notre Dame, made of local volcanic rock. Closed for lunch, so could not look inside. Wandered the streets of the Old Town. ...

... and Clermont-Ferrand became home. Most shops were closed for the month of August when those who could afford it took their 'congé annuel'. We hung out with those who didn't jet off to the Riviera, a demographic of the population who live day by day and who seemed to appreciate us strangers as a welcome distraction. We, in turn, appreciated the company and there were more than a few farewells to deliver at the end of the month.

Caleb and I ventured out to catch a game or two of a junior tennis tournament that was starting today. The teenagers were playing on clay courts just like at Rolland Garos (French Open). ... and two points for a spectacular goal - think 360 spin or no look goal etc. Our team was awesome and we won all four games. The final play was epic - I was twenty feet away from the other teams goal and facing away from it - I received a pass, bent down an rifled it on net between my legs ... ... out the rules and watching 18 year old studs running past us with ease. A sad moment occurred when Caleb was chosen captain of a team and promptly passed over picking me for his team four times. His only excuse was 'you are really not good at rugby' - which I suppose he has a point. When I reflect I realize how many sports we do a day - yet somehow Caleb spins it as though he never gets any choices ... Only mom and dad do... ...
