The Trans Andes Horse Back Challenge

I WILL ADD PHOTOS AFTER MY NEXT CHALLENGE. SORRY. What an experience! I had not been looking forward to the challenge as I was in the swing of the "mochilero" life (back packing) so the idea of going on an organised tour with a load of other Brits was a bit strange. Also as IŽd personally grown so much out here whilst only speaking Castillano the idea of speaking in English again was daunting. However..... I am SO glad that I did this challenge. I learnt even more this week than the whole of ...

SACRIFICED CHILDREN - NOT OURS!

... were excavated in 1999.   It was fascinating to learn about the children, which were member of the Inca Royal family.  Apparently a distinguishing feature of the Royal family is the shape of their heads.  When a royal baby was born their head was bound in a peak shape. This obviously had a serious repercussion later on as the brain was not allowed to develop and the members of the royal family would have brain disorders or die at a young age.  We thought the Incas were ...

Back to Salta

... just walking in it, but this will quickly come to an end. So we are crossing at the next point and there is a spot where the river drops like 2 feet and there is some exposed stone right where it drops. Well, me not paying attention and just going about my business look at these rocks and think, oh, I will step there and then onto that one on the shore. No problem. And there wasn´t a problem until I tried to step onto the rock on the shore, which I found out was ...

From Pillar to Post to Palace

... the only funny thing about him was his total lack of ability to keep his mouth closed. Saturday saw the move back to Grace´s and a meal with all the host families. Sunday was possibly the highlight of Salta to that point. We were picked up from Grace's in the afternoon and taken to a Finca which is essentially a ranch where you hire horses are and lead around the countryside on horseback for several hours. It was fantastic. My first time riding a horse and I loved it. Me and Flower (the ...

Me and my gaucho

... spoke to a guy in the dorm from Bradford called Jim who was hilarious.....he speaks Spanish in a very very Yorkshire accent and even throws in the occasional English word. Totally cracked me up. We wandered for a bit, looking for empanadas which are Argentinian pasties and taste delicioso. The hostel had an amazing roof terrace bar as well, which is run by a guy called Peter who is originally from East Anglia or something like that and now lives in Salta. I spent ...

Onwards we went checking out various bits of the landscape as we went (Valleys, Rock formations etc.) We finally made it out to the wine country where we checked out 3 different wineries one being certified organic. We grabbed some lunch and smashed a bottle of wine and got well aquainted with a local llama hehe. Fun times. We headed back to Salta in the arvo checking out the ...

... and chips and a large bottle of coke. Oh, this is meant for two people. Never mind I am hungry. It takes me a while but I polish of the lot. I then make the first major cock-up of my trip. I go to an ATM and withdraw money. The receipt gives my balance in pesos which amuses me. I take the money and the receipt and leave the ATM. I go to the bus station and buy a ticket to Mendoza for the next afternoon. Big trip, 18 hours in a semi cama bus(200 ...
