So, we had planned to go to Etnaland today, home of water slides and rides, which the girls had been counting down the sleeps for, bit some bad behaviour put paid to that, I'm afraid!

Instead, we opted for a more low key day and headed to the beach at Fiumefreddo, about 8km down the road. The beach itself was quite rocky, and the water really cold, but we had a nice time ...

On Tuesday, we decided to explore the villages surrounding Mount Etna (locals pronounce it Et-uh-na) - Castiglione di Sicilia and Bronte, famous for its pistachios.

... owners, Amelio and Maria, are such wonderful, accommodating people that we saw a lot of over the week, dropping off wine, olive oil, newly laid eggs and honey.....

Every other evening Lia and I would go fruit picking below the cottage: lemons, oranges, cherries, apricots and sour little apples.....

Hi y'all,

When I was making my summer plans over the spring months, I of course wanted to include some relaxing beach time. I made plans to go with a friend to Mykonos in early July and figured that would suffice (in addition to weekly trips to Santa Severa beach outside Rome). Something that I was also planned for the summer was to visit in old teaching buddy who now lives in Zurich. Was going to do that a few days after Madrid.

A week in Sicily has been a welcome restbite and separation for us all. We, my brother Tom and I, along with my wife and Tom's uni friend Rich, joined my parents for a week.
