... d ordered to share as it stopped everything from feeling to heavy. After all that indulgence we decided weŽd better walk up to the second mirador which was in the east of town where we were. The trek up the steps definitely did us good and we were rewarded with a really nice view over the town. No sooner had we decided it was time to head home when the sky cracked with thunder and we had a race back to the hostel before it started pouring down.

This morning we started the day with coffee at our French patisserie then headed off for a 30km boat ride along the Grijalva River from Tuxtla to the hydroelectric dam through these spectacular limestone gorges ranging to 1000 metres in height. Due to the inaccessibility of the rainforest along the river bank we saw some interesting wildlife ...

Unfortunately we could not take this route due to what are termed protests in the mountains. The rebels were meeting with the police and military and the bus company would not use this route. Instead we took ...

After a late start we mainly lounged researching our next move during the day and to prepare ourselves for the evening ahead.

To our surprise we discovered our Scottish friends had failed to leave as they had planned and had procured further supplies of Aberdeen Angus and we were joined by the affable Jonny (22) from ...

I'm really glad I decided to leave Oaxaca early. The plan was to drive down the mountain and kick it in the little beach town of Juchitan before going to San Cristobal the next day. But after making my way down the agave and cacti strewn mountain (a stark difference from the jungle on the other side), I got into Juchitan in the early afternoon and realized it was not a place I'd want to be for a whole day/night. It was ...
