Costado Sur Centro Comercial, Metrocentro Carretera Masaya Managua, Nicaragua, 276-8989
Roughly around October 5th or 6th I went on a...Visa run! For my first "get out of the country for 72 hours or get deported" venture, I chose beautiful Nicaragua. I didn't put much planning into it; rather, packed my bag, had a vague idea of where I would be going, and bought a bus ticket. My carrier was TicaBus, which has comfortable seats, air-conditioning, and plays movies during the trip. What this breaks down to: seats are comfy, yes...bring a down blanket, earmuffs and a scarf because t...

... small ones and a few personal items weighing about 25 lbs total back to Oregon (YES, I'm serious!), we headed to the Managua post office to see what the story was. We arrived at the bright pink post office at 9:30am and got an estimate of $120 for shipping. Compared to the other quotes this was a bargain!

Since the post office doesn't sell boxes we hauled our stuff back to the car and drove to UPS to buy boxes and shipping supplies ...
Managua, Nicaragua mschwartz... I had to go straight through them.
Trudging up to the hostel barefoot with my legs covered in mud up to my knees the owner of the place took one look at me and burst out laughing, once he was done he pointed me in the direction of the tap where I washed off.
Staying at popoyo was awsome, right on the beach with a real good reef break up the end (although sometimes a little crowded),there was also a cool little restaurant with a pet monkey and two big beautiful parrots. I ...
Granada, Granada, Nicaragua reece_k... purchased down here in Managua. They bought this property and are beginning to build a house on it for future study abroad programs to Nicaragua. The land and house is beautiful! We got to look around the place and then played charades for a little while we waited on dinner. Dr. Giles had picked up food from a local restaurant... it was real Nicaraguan food and very delicious! There was so many different foods to try (and they were all prepared the Nicaraguan way) - beef, chicken ...
Managua, Managua, Nicaragua cainja6We made it safely!!! My flight was on time and smooth... so all that was great. We landed in Managua about 8:30 Nica time (so 10:30 at home). It took a while to go through customs and get our bags, but it wasn't too painful. I met some nice Nicaragua people on the plan who talked to me like I spoke Spanish - so I just smiled and said si! Also, once we got off the plane all of the airport people were masked! Apparently, they are scared of Americans bringing in swine flu?! kinda funny ...
Managua, Nicaragua cainja6... that future and planet is obtainable. As Jane Goodall has stated, “It is easy to be overwhelmed by feelings of hopelessness as we look around the world. We are losing species at a terrible rate, the balance of nature is disturbed, and we are destroying our beautiful planet. We have fear about water supplies, where future energy will come from – and most recently the developed world has been mired in an economic crisis. But in spite of all this I do have hope.”
Costa Rica, Central America taylorashby... up the ball. Security had guns but they used them to hang there hats on. The home team won 11-1 and it was stopped in the 7th. I am seeing more death here. I took the bus out of town and got onto a ferry and there were two ferries waiting. There was a casket on one of them so I stayed away from that one. Why is there so much death? creeping me out.
Granada, Nicaragua mikedolan... stones into the mangos to get them to fall. Strange, considering how religious people there are: I would think they would worry about disturbing dead or something... I know that would be a problem in Russia. Guess, not here. But we were rushing through under mango trees to make sure no fruit falls on us - they fall from so high, that i think they may make a hole in the scull if they fall on you... On the way back we by accident got to the market. But ...

Managua ...
