We made it to Singapore! I wasn't really sure what to expect from Singapore as a city.... some people said it was boring and there isn't much to see. Well, all I can say is they were WRONG! I love it here, this city was built with serious shopping in mind! The main road in Singapore "Orchard Road" is about 4 times the size of oxford street and there are about 30 huge shopping malls, ranging from top-end designer to little market stalls! I felt so sorry for Ian as I dragged him round all of th...
Singapore, Singapore kateandian Welcome to my blog again, it's good to be back travelling again after 3 years.
Mum and I had a stopover in Singapore on Sunday and Monday, and it was a very pleasant surprise. We'd expected something like Toyko, with tall buildings as far as the eye can see, but there is a real feeling of space, lots of greenery, and incredibly interesting architecture.
Everything worked so well, from the MRT (fast, efficient public transport) to clearing airport customs in about a minute. Love...
12 hour plane flight wasn't too bad, went fairly quickly. Arriving at Singapore was great as the people were so friendly and really lovley to talk too their English is better than Marks easily. Singapore is so clean and the attention to detail is excellent. Shopping is fantastic although we have seen M&S, Topshop and HMV to mention just a few, so don't feel too home sick. Just caught up with the jet lag we mustvé had 4 hours sleep in the last 48 hours but sure we will catch up. Tommorow w...
Singapore, Singapore mk1Today was excellent! We Got the Hippo bus (See Pictures) and took the Duck Tour around the city centre, the duck tour also took us on the river which was a great way to see the sights and take in the history. The shopping centres here are so big its unreal but got some great stuff, Helen got some shoes and Mark bought a tailored suit which was a bargain. We saw the worlds biggest fountain called the 'fountain of wealth' which will bring you good luck if you walk around it three times consecut...
Singapore, Singapore mk1Finally caught up with some sleep as jet lag has been bad!!! Left hotel fairly late and visited the Botanical Gardens...very strange being in a rain forest in the middle of a city. Singapore is one of the only cities to have this and as we are on the point of trivia....did you know that a pineapple is not actually a single fruit but a 100-200 small fruits fused together!!! Interesting stuff lol!!! You would not believe the amount of different types of orchids in one place (please refer to pho...

... who couldn't be shaken off. Returning to Geylang was actual heaven after a day of frustration.

Moving on from the negativity, today was much better as we were once again left as a threesome. We first went to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to have a little walk around one of Singapore's only natural rainforest areas. The weather was distinctly cooler and after taking another bus, we soon found ourselves transported away from the big city into an entirely new ...

We had a bite to eat at the zoo then made our way to the Night Safari. Also really cool, but stacks of people. On the bus on our way home (about 9.30pm) I could see the bus driver nodding off so was totally ******** myself. I decided I would quite like to live to see the rest ...

I usually
don't really support caging animals but this zoo does a really good
job at placing the animals in as natural a setting as possible. Singapore, Singapore carrienica05... taking a chair lift to the top of a hill, and sitting in a go-kart like buggy, riding down a 650 meter track. After walking around for a while, we headed back to the mainland, taking the return journey on the monorail, which was six times cheaper for a return ticket than one way on the cable car. We walked around the more up-market area of the Harbour Front, passing the town hall and a cricket field with a match in ...
Singapore, Singapore eddiemetal... ago. Now there are 4 million people here and it is an independent country (having been ousted from Malaysia). It is a democracy, although one party has been in power for the past many decades, and opposition leaders find themselves mired in expensive lawsuits. The press can not be said to be free. Since land is so limited most people live in high rises, and many of these are government-owned. Single family homes on 1300 sqft of land that need work run over one ...
