Of all the countless border crossings I have done over the years with either the Landcruiser (Eric) or the Hilux (Sylvia) this has to be the most inefficient one yet. Just by chance the largest Rock Festival in Lithuania is taking place this weekend behind the village so we had a wander around. It was all very laid back and friendly. We didn't stay but they were happy for us to just wander in without paying whilst the security kept an eye on the motorbike.

... The queue has now grown to over 100 cars or so.
Here goes then, we have two new guards so things are bound to speed up. No No No. 2 Lorries and 4 cars allowed through approx every 45mins but in between this, cars are queue jumping and the border guards just sit and allow them to do it. It's now 10pm and my patience has deserted me although Steve is now so 'p***ed off he has become Zen man, all calm and cool.

On the black pottery route Today's daytrip was a tour of three potters, who's technique is to heat the kiln to 1100 degrees C, fire the clay, then close off all vents in order to remove the oxygen. When the pottery is removed, the result is black. One of the potters, whom we visited, Aivars Uspelis is very much into Medieval times, including tools, weapons and clothing.
