Hos collected us from Senaru and after a few attempts managed to find a hotel for us that actually had rooms. Mataram is the largest town on Lombok by quite a long way - although with very little to see here, and being very close to Senggigi has few tourists stay for long (so why are all the hotels full?)

... 8217;s not as impressive as Dan’s 8 days with no shower, but that’s the best I can do. A day or 2 before the trek I’d been for a massage in town with Dan, my ankles (amongst other things) were getting clicked all over the shop, but I think something got knackered 'cos I pretty much limped out of the parlour and had a bad ankle for the next 2 days, this didn’t help the first day trekking.

Hiking The Rinjani Volcano

... The summit is 3700 meters (just over 12000 feet). The top of the mountain was blown off long long ago, so the caldera has a large lake in it and a new mountain/volcano coming up out of the middle of the water. The bottom of the caldera is about 600 meters below the rim and 1700 meters below the high point.

The Rinjani trek first goes up to the rim to a base camp. The second day is a long one - up to the summit (up 1100m) and then back down ...

... glada att vi klarade det.
Efter toppen var det dags att bege sig ner i dalen igen,en 8 timmar lång vandring låg framför oss, gissa om vi var lite sega efteråt!

Idag far vi vidare till Bali i ett par dagar, sen planerar vi att åka till Malaysia.

... Mataram a taxi took me to Senaru, a village from where the Rinjani trekking would start. I was one day early (they don't have groups leaving every day) so I walked to the waterfalls and spent some time there. The next day the trekking started and our group existed of 11 tourists, guide Alam and 4 porters. We walked the entire day and reached the crater rim by late afternoon (from 600 m to 2600 m).
