Stuck in Puerto La Cruz

What a surprise we got when we arrived at dead on 630 AM for the 8 Am ferry as it arrived 3 hours late and the place was heaving with every sort of lifeform imaginable. We boarded the ferry with people pushing and shoving to get up the tiny staircase at the base of the ferry. Soon it was a heaving mass of sweating people. We arrived on deck to see that on this particular ferry we had been caged off like animals from the rest of the boat. We grabbed a couple of benches while most of the other ...

... swallows and frigate birds are always soaring overhead. The place is not swarming with tourists, but there are enough people from Australia, the UK, France, Switzerland and Germany that we are not feeling too conspicuous. The people are friendly, the food is good and we are all in all happy that we have stuck around. Tomorrow we are off to the oilbird caves via Cumana to ...

Daaag

Ups and Downs

... airport til around 4pm). Took a por puesto (small bus) to Caracas, with more decent venezuelans arguing the best way to get to the next stop - Puerto La Cruz. After leaving the bus met an American guy Kevin who was going in the same direction, so spent the trip chatting and exchanging money problems with him. Arrived in Puerto La Cruz around 11pm desperate for a night sleep, while the city seemed desperate for our money. Taxi overcharged by 3times the amount, and the posada ...

To Puerto La Cruz and beyond

... it started to pelt down with rain, we hit the coastal road for the hours´s drive to Sante Fe. On the way we went though Playa Colarada which was one of the places we looked at staying. On seeing the Playa, being a Sunday we are pleased that we decided to stay furether down the coast. We arrive in Sante Fe at the bus terminal, which is a true slum. Dogs all over the show, but it seems ok. We get off and wait for the rain to calm down. We donn our ...

On our trip we stopped not far from Santa Fe and went diving for oysters which were plentiful, we mixed them with lime and hot pepper sauce and enjoyed them on our boat (we saved some for dinner too). We did lots of snorkelling around various coral reefs around ...
