11:30ish - 2:15pm We got to Venice. JP is unloading stuff here in this rather glitzy neighborhood. The guy here let me come inside the house to sit where it's cool. Poor JP is out there roasting and sweating. It is very, very humid. This job was supposed to take a half ...
Today we headed to the Beach at Siesta Keys, I'm not a particular fan of flat white beaches where the only thing to do is swim around in a flat sea, then sitting around on a beach getting sand in everywhere and boiling alive. (which means funnily enough I actually prefer going to the beach in Britain, where there are waves, cliffs and its absolutely freezing) And I wasn't hugely impressed that was exactly how it turned out. ...
... despite the hotel having no suspicions history whatsoever), later we went to a second baseball game, this time bradenton marauders vs clearwater threshers, it was free-t shirt night and a free hot dog was also thrown in, the game was again one-sided, this time the threshers running rigs around the marauders 7-2, despite the marauders coming close to a comeback in the seventh inning ...

Within about five miles there were three parks, Nokomis, Laurel and Scherer, all with water and restrooms.
Of course, the issue for us (as always) is after riding several miles in each direction ... we return to our little dock and enjoy food and ...

After the Chihuly exhibit we headed towards John’s Pass on a recommendation. Unfortunately this was a major fail. We put an hour in the meter thinking we may have to come back to put more time in but quickly realized that we did not even need an hour. We were expecting a cool boardwalk with little ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Ranola Sarasota
A very nice small hotel in an excellent location. A short walk to many good restaurants. I had as good a pizza as I've ever tasted at Il Panifico one block away on Main St. Robert and Kim (the owners) were extremely pleasant, very helpful and enthusiastic. I would definitely stay there again. Convenient parking is included.
Hotel in posizione ottimale
Ritornerei sicuramente. Il comodo parcheggio è usufruibile gratuitamente.
Best New Year's Ever
We wanted to stay near downtown Sarasota for the New Year's street party. Hotel Ranola is in a historic building in the heart of downtown. The restoration job they've done is just terrific - really cute decor - loved having a kitchen. You feel that you are staying in a very hip in town apartment rather than a hotel. Owner Kim personally handled check in which was nice.
Fun and modern hotel with all the comforts of home.
My husband and stayed at Hotel Ranola over the Thanksgiving holiday and it was wonderful. The owners are extremely helpful in pointing you in the right direction to all the hot spots and wonderful sites of Sarasota. They truly go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. Our room was amazing and had all the comforts of home. The rooms are decorated with a funky modern twist but the character of the 1900's building is not lost. There are so many special touches from the kitchen being fully stocked ,to the wonderful bathroom tolietires, to the comfortable bed, to the ipod station, and flat screen t.v. The hotel is also located in walking distance to fabulous shops and restaurants .This hotel stands out among the other generic hotels in Sarasota and a stay there will truly enhance your travel
A Fabulous Find!
We were so surprised when we arrived! None of our friends in and around Sarasota had heard of the hotel so I was a bit suspicious. Well were we lucky! It turns out the hotel had only been open for two months and what a find! We were fortunate enough to stay in one of the suites which was huge! Two very spacious rooms and a full kitchen with eat in table. Free WiFi, plasma screen televisions...it was great. Even the single rooms were huge (we took a peak as we were leaving). This hotel is in a super location within walking distance to all the shops and cafes and only a short distance by car to the beaches. We spend a lot of time traveling for business and pleasure and I must say should either take us back to Sarasota we would book the Ranola and hope they had availability!
Hotel Ranola is so Unique
Hotel Ranola is a building from 1926 that has been converted to a hotel. The room that we stayed in was really big compared to other hotels we have visited. They have black and white tile in the kitchens and bathrooms. I liked the Sitting area because you could watch tv not from your bed... although the beds were most comfortable. Very plush. We loved being downtown because we walked to a different restaurant each night (and lunch for that matter!). The hotel is run by a husband and wife team who seem to be very happy in their new business. They gave us tons of information about the area and even printed out directions to my in laws house. We highly recommend Hotel Ranola. It has a lot of charm and character and all the amenities you would find any any four or five star hotel.
Hotel Ranola is Amazing!
Hotel Ranola opened it's doors a week before we stayed. It was amazing. Funky style, small and located in downtown Sarasota. We parked our car and didn't get into except to drive 10 mintues to the beach. Tons of restaurants and shops right there. The local owners were so excited to be in business and helped us with ideas and directions where to go. We loved it. The rooms were big too! Similar to South Beach style deco hotels with more space!
