Reykjavik, Capital Region, Iceland fallegur... still not feeling well. I never left the room Sunday and basically, napped and hung out. Perhaps by far the two worst days of my travel career. Hoping that Monday will be a better day.... I got up Monday feeling better, but not 100%. I still had no appetite and got up and out of the room by noon. I was stir crazy at that point, so I wandered around parts of town I had not visited and found a cafe to ...
Reykjavík, Iceland nedk... that many Icelanders can read the old scriptures and manuscripts. Global warming has meant Iceland's tempereature is increasing having the benefit of a more temperate climate and more vegetation is growing. The downside is that the glaciers are melting at a rate of 100m a year. This year also saw the arrival of two polar bears to Iceland who came via the sea. This is something that hadn't happened in decades. Unfortunately Iceland does not have anywhere to put two hungry polar bears and both were shot.
Reykjavík, Iceland myates... with Judge Bork or the Bork from Star Trek." No way!" I Exclaimed as I immediately turned around to catch a glimpse of her. Alas, I was too late. For the next five minutes Steve and I argued as I dismissed the Bork sighting. I must add here that Steve had previously seen a crop circle on a glacier earlier in the day. Five minutes later as the tour came to an end we de-bussed and Steve asked Helga, "Does Bjork live in Iceland?" Helga replied nonchalantly, "ah yes ...
Reykjavík, Reykjavík, Iceland jon.price... rivers with steep sided volcanic mountains on either side. A very far out landscape....have never seen anything quite so dramatic. And the rivers of course, have no bridges..we simply drive through them. At places they are 3 to 4 feet deep!! I'm not exaggerating either. And they're flowing strongly...lots of current...I was pretty impressed with the whole project...and at times holding my breath and creating an ...
Reykjavík, Iceland rawhideone... area of meadows with a river flowing through to a large lake. The European tectonic plate is about 7kms away (the tectonic plates are moving away at 1-2 cm a year, although there have been earthquakes which have accelerated the movement eg 1-2 metres in one hit) and the area has subsided substantially. The parliaments were held in the open air for periods of around 2 weeks, and merchants, traders, entertainers, etc also came and set up makeshift booths. It is estimated there ...

Reykjavík, Iceland cecilia74... up into third gear. I was glad to reach the main road again. The next stop was a volcano just outside the famous area of Myvatn. Myvatn means 'midge lake'. It is a green and beautiful area, with mounds of moss, and spiky boulders of lava sticking up out of the lake. The volcano caught my imagination though. It is supposed to be dormant, but the steam rising from the vents (fumeroles) makes you wonder. From the top you can see just where the black lava flowed ...
