Goodbye Lanka.... hello India!

A travel blog entry by chooklotto

I had to get up early today to have a good brekky, pack my stuff, check the internet about my accommodation in Delhi, get my things out of the safety deposit box and check out -- my taxi was coming to pick me up at 10.45am to take me to the airport for my flight to Delhi. I did all my chores and was waiting out the front -- he was 25min late but he …

I managed to get moving about 10.30am today and set off exploring not long after... the friend who showed me around the market last night was somehow 'conveniently' hanging around the front of my hotel. hmmm... I told him i was going to the train station and he kindly walked me there. I followed these other tourists and managed to buy a ticket out …

Today was a flat out day which is why I was in bed by 7pm... I went upstairs to have my jam and toast on the rooftop restaurant then made my way back to the metro to head out to India Gate, a monument dedicated to the thousands on Indians who died in World War 1. From the metro stop i had the longest walk down the street - should have accepted a …

After a few tears each we made it on to the flight! Arriving in Delhi at 5 am was a pretty surreal experience! The nice modern airport is definately a trick! Katie enjoyed making friends with the airport security guard on the way out, but our nice airport transfer man told us he just took a liking to her, and didnt intend using the gun. We drove in …

Today we toured New Delhi with our frieldnly driver who picked us up from the hotel. we had to deal with ur first bug-in toilet experience and skanky showers. its harder than you'd think to keep your mouth closed and still breathe the wholoe shower.

we went to hummayan's tomb which is the little version of the taj mahal, but built first. …

Historical Traveler Reviews Rahul Palace Hotel New Delhi

Beware!

from ishmaelnb

The room was mediocre. The roof top dining room was grubby. But the worst was the telephone issue. I used the room phone several attempt in a futile attempt to reconfirm my flight. Never got through. Nevertheless the clerk tried to charge nearly $35 for using the phone. I protested and got a modest reduction. The fact that he wanted to be paid in cash suggests a scam. I was in a hurry, and he was the manager, so there was no other avenue for protest. I used a credit card. They are not to be trusted.

You can find a better hotel

from dsh

We arrived at this hotel late evening after a long international flight. We were promised the "presidential triple room." After a long wait, we were given a small double room with a dirty cot. The towel in the bathroom was soiled.

The hotel staff was arrogant. I felt this hotel was a ripoff and definitely would not recommend it.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!

from anonymous

Do not stay at this hotel!! I have travelled extensively and stayed at numerous hotels (budget and luxury) and this is the WORST hotel I have stayed in!

Not only were the rooms shabby but the hotel staff were rude, unprofessional and dishonest. Our mere 2 night stay at Rahul Palace had developed into a continuum of debacles, one after another. Every night we were kept awake by the constant and annoying chatter and laughing by the hotel staff in the communal hallway. There would be around 3 or 4 members of staff present at their nightly "conference", and as the hallways are cladded with stone tiles the noise would reverbate and amplify. In addition, we did not get to shower for the 2 whole days were we there due to their pathetic hot water system. I could go on but there are too many things about why you should not stay at this hotel!!

Avoid at all cost

from jsba

I would not recommend this hotel .We originally had a booking for three nights but left after one. There was no hot water, the rooms are shabby and unclean and the toilet did not flush. The Karol Bagh area did not have a great deal to offer and we would not return.

Great place !

from Accomm.Provider

Very friendly people and clean rooms. Hot water and good service. Roof terrace for dinner and drinks.

Loved the Rahul...

from anonymous

After a rocky start regarding the lack of swimming pool, which was obviously not the fault of the hotel, and due to misrepresentation of the internet description, my stay at Rahul Palace was extremely enjoyable. The guys behind the desk are very nice, happy to help and have a very friendly attitude. The other staff are just as courteous and helpful and went about their duties with quiet efficiency.

The rooms are very pleasant, kept clean, as was the hotel in general.

The Roof Restaurant is also a very pleasing environment. Room service was speedy.

All in all, I totally enjoyed my five days at Rahul Hotel and would visit again if I ever come to Delhi again. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends or business colleagues.

I would like to thank all the staff who made the last few days of my trip to India very enjoyable and memorable.

Thank you

Lin Taylor

Good friendly staff

This hotel is in a nice area and has clean and spacious rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a nice roof top terrace, which serves reasonably priced food and drinks.

Very freindly staff

We have enjoyed our stay here and the room is very nice. The roof top restaurant is worth a visit and the hotel staff are very freindly.

Not exactly what we were expecting

from CraigInVegas

Spent 4 nights at the Hotel Rahul Palace, and didn't get much sleep during our stay. Our first room (on the ground floor) was close to the reception desk and noisy all night long -- not from guests checking in but the staff chatting amongst themselves. We asked to change rooms and were given another room on the 2nd floor -- in this one the air con was broken. And because the floors are wooden, you can hear every person walking in the hallway or the floor above you. They said they would look into it but didn't, and when I asked if it had been fixed they didn't know what I was talking about. There is no pool at all, even though it was advertised on Expedia. The floor & bed had a rather gritty feeling to it.

The area is not too central -- not terribly far from the center of town but you need to take an auto-rickshaw (for $1 or so).

The staff were very friendly and drove my wife to a doctor's office when she got a case of "Delhi Belly," and didn't ask for any money (we tipped the driver, of course.) The day after she got sick we had to spend the day in the hotel, with no a/c, and I much rather would have been in a nicer hotel. The $40 or so we paid seemed to be expensive for this type of hotel.

Avoid

from Steve5London

A very basic hotel that desrves no star rating. Bed linen and towels looked dirty. Shower head was blocked. There was no balcony or fridge in room. Certainly didn't see a pool or jaccuzi. No double glazing, hence very noisy.

There was building work in progress in the hotel during my stay. Will not use this hotel again.
