... turned up and Jen had stepped in to take up the lessons aboard. The two children Orlando and Allegra were very nice kids. Jen was worried as she got seasick easily. A cheery lass from Seattle - the same as Bradley, so they had common ground from the word go.
The boat looked very tired, but the worry was that there was so much gear we felt should have been there in tip top condition, and it wasn't. Oh dear!! Kevin was helping ...
... a job prepares 18 year olds for traveling and then helps them adjust when they get back. Like a kind of social guidance counselor. To me that seemed like a BS job.
Quite bizarre that people stop to let you cross the street here. A much more laid back feel than the rest of Italy. Especially at around 12:30pm when almost every single shop besides McDonald's closes for siesta until about 4pm.
I saw some German correctness as well. Our bill was out by 1 ...
... we’d likely get stuck – but there you go.
We land up in the middle of some marshes at one point and we sit and watch several large birds of prey circling in the air – it had finally stopped raining.
When we arrived back at the monastery we bumped into Alan and his wife again – they had managed to find a bus timetable that said they could get a bus back from Villasimius at 4pm along the coastal road, that would stop fairly near ...
... there are remains of thermal baths, mosaics and the only amphitheatre on Sardinia.
We end up spending most of the day here – exploring the ruins, walking up to the tower and the surrounding areas. Food has been incredibly expensive in Sardinia and we find a place for lunch that has the most reasonable prices we've seen so far. There is a really sweet looking cat sat right beside me, so I feed it some of my ...
... beach. The sea was crystal clear and there were very few people around at this time of day as we set out along the shore. It was a long stretch of sand, which ended in some rocks and a couple of boats, which we couldn’t get around. We decided to take a path slightly inland and then spent the next couple of hours on the headland trying every which way to get either around or over it to get to the other side, but every path we took came to a definite end. We ...
Capo Carbonara, Sardinia, Italy travelmonster... other way and we watched as it struggled to get through, no chance of us making it – at all – it was one river too far.
We turned the car around and both took a huge gulp in realising we now had to get back through the river we had previously agreed we never should have crossed. We had no choice though because we were now stuck between a river we shouldn’t have crossed and a river we couldn’t cross. When we got back to the river, John admitted that it ...
... he’s happy and off he goes. A while later he returns with a dish of pasta, a tomato based sauce with bits of meat in it – fine, no problem, its really nice.
After eating we go in search of our accommodation – which is a converted monastery. I’ve really been looking forward to coming here and I wasn’t disappointed. We drop our bags and go and investigate the grounds. It’s peaceful and tranquil, exactly what we wanted.
... home, we were greeted with more pizza, dessert, and alas, more alcohol (typical Sardinian wine, and “limonchella” (a strong, homemade, lemon liquor) for example).
My first real day in Sardinia was unlike any other I had spent on a day at the beach! The morning was calm, breakfast of café and biscotti (thinner croissant filled with nutella) on the terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Following breakfast, my boyfriend showed me the ...
... it did look like it would be a cool music venue. Back in town we found a quaint little cafe in a main piazza to have lunch and afterwards a gellateria, yummy! (Can you spot the main theme of this holiday) We joined the locals in heading back home for a nap before venturing out again in the evening. The streets were again full of people parading and so we found a cafe to stop at, have a drink and watching them. After leaving Andrea quickly realised she had left ...
