The few days we spent in Morelia coincided with the city's 468th anniversary. The city had many visitors in town and events to be seen. The celebration culminated with a parade and fireworks show backdropped against the town's beautiful cathedral. We also got the chance to take in a true Mexican rodeo in which only one cowboy was carted off on a stretcher...those guys are tough (or nuts).

On a whim we stop at the small, sunny, lakeside town of Cuitzeo and time it perfectly to see a national beauty competition. We get to watch some pop acts strut around, then a selection of Mexicos finest scantily clad form each department in "traditional dress". ...

Dostalam 4 dniowe wolne z okazji dnia swietych i wyruszylam na wycieczke na poludnie meksyku do miejscowosci Patzcuaro (znanej skad inand z wielkiego swietowania). Mialam szanse zobaczyc jak ludzie celebruja pamieac o swoich zmarlych. Widzialam kosze z jedzenie na grobach, oltarze w kwiatach, ludzi spiacych i biwakujacych na cmentarzach i tlumy turystow. Artesanias Along Lago Patzcuaro
... was an internationally known mask maker. Modesto and his brothers have carried on the trade, with Modesto leading the way. In mask contests, he has won many top honors. In the photo I've included in this blog, he is holding a first place mask. He also travels yearly to the U.S. and visits schools in Boston, showing how he makes masks and working with kids to make masks and creations of their own (out of clay, for safety sake).
