... candy and flowers ("Kamillo" and "Trushia"), but we also learned the names and a few lyrics of the 3 famous German songs we heard playing all weekend. The songs have now been on repeat on all of our Itunes for the past week... By the end of the parade, we boarded the bus back home with a bag full of candies, chocolates, and flowers.

Although we arrived back to Freiburg to a week full of midterms and deadlines for papers, our carnival weekend made it totally worth it.

... and hundreds of horses too! Everything was so colourful and the crowd was so loud and excited, it was a great atmosphere! We stayed through the entire parade - which lasted around 5 and a half hours! - and enjoyed every minute! It was a long day, and we did get rather cold, but it was entirely worth it to experience a proper German tradition!

Here are some facts my Mummy sent me afterwards - it is shocking just how big the carnival really is!

... stair climb I went to the pub for lunch and ordered a beer and what I thought was a ham and bacon sandwich with a few potatoes and some salad. The beer was OK but the meat turned out to be a large piece of a pig with ham, bacon, pork and crackling. Four people would have been flat out eating it.
