Since leaving Basel two days ago the scenery on our trip has changed quite markedly. No more following towpaths beside pretty waterways with barges and swans. Our trip out of Basel seemed to go endlessly through suburban and industrial areas, around roadworks with unsigned detours which, on a foggy morning, was quite uninspiring.
Yesterday night a fox paid a visit to our tent neighbors to try and get some food. Reminded me of the desert a bit except this is a much less wild place, just another German campground after all. Also, leaving one's breakfast outside the tent during the night might not be the best thing to do. Today's road had many twists and turns, and killer hills (especially when you're pulling a 30kg bike) but there were a few ...
... odd occasion. The weather has been amazing since we arrived in Switzerland so it was great to cool off.
We spent the rest of our time eating chocolate :) and cheese fondue.
The cheese fondue was pretty heavy but it was really nice. We ate it with bread as well as potatoes, gerkins and pickled onions.

Matthew wants to visit the Rhein Falls. We head for Basel again but this time instead of crossing into Switzerland we drive along the German side of the border to avoid the vignette fees. Much of the journey follows the Rhine and we stop off at one point to walk along the river. After a very long drive it's 8pm and we don't have a campsite.
