A long day, but WOW!

A long day, but WOW! Fantastic roads (and corners) in the forest. The locals are crazy and left us standing through the bends. Breathtaking views; everything you would imagine and more. Spent too long enjoying ourselves and arrived in Schaffhausen late, but have managed to get rooms in a lovely hotel. The town centre is very pretty and very old (Medieval), with lots of nightlife and a McDonald's!

Miss the Swiss

... days of our time here locked up in the hotel finishing our papers and making our presentations. I finished my paper and gave my presentation on Wednesday, which was nice to get off my back. Now I am on vacation for the next week and a half.
Our resort is on a peninsula overlooking the Adriatic Sea, which is nice, but we're all kind of eager to move on to the next section of our adventures. And it doesn't help that our ...

... of Lucerne from it. We wandered around in the rainy streets a bit and went into St. Peter's church. It wasn't very big or grand at all from the outside. We looked inside for a minute or so but honestly I can't really remember what it looked like because after seeing a lot of European churches, they just start to blend together a bit when they aren't unique. However, there was a very plain looking church we saw at some point without big tall ceilings or ...

Just a day trip to see this old city. Lots of brightly painted buildings with ornate oriel windows. Most of the windows were carved with scenes or fancy designs, sometimes painted, sometimes both. Lots of fountains and statues. Found a chocolate shop and pigged out.

Very small town

... Got the wobbly boot on after a few after-dinner beers and a couple of Jagermeisters. Strolled around town for a while just looking, and happily never lost my footing in the snow or on the ice covered footpaths. Did do a couple of tap dances, but didn't go down.

Stein am Rhein

... James and Martine have a great family home there and it was lovely to meet Jeremy and catch up with James mum Carol after 23yrs, as well as her mum and Martine's parents. We also consumed copious quatities of party food before hitting the road for Stein am Rhein, a journey of just over an hour that was very stress free. We arrived at our accommodation, a nice hotel and hostel on the main drag, right by the Rhine River ...

Fondu and gelatos

... in the middle of the falls that somehow survives the onslaught of water. In the evening we sampled the local gelato with the others after they came back from fencing practice. It was a 10 minute walk down the hill. The flavours were quite fancy - Allison enjoyed the rhubarb, there was also elderflower and other hard-to-describe ones. The city has lots of quaint squares and stores, being quite medieval, but is very walkable. Being in Switzerland ...

Day of departure

... a pleasure going over to the modern and well-equipped Novotel gym again. Did 35 minutes on the crosstrainer, 15 on the rower, and then back to the IBIS to pack up. Couldn't quite fit everything into our bags. Had to leave a few of our camping purchases as well as the Let's Go book behind. Managed to leave in time though (left the room right at 10 am). A lot of people must leave at the last minute, as the reception area was very busy. We had coffee, bagel and ...
