... stuffed ravioli's. And then also some more wine, of course. After we ate, we went to see 52,000 legs of ham hung in the factory. So happy we went to see those AFTER we ate because it was so smelly, but I really do love prosciutto. A lot like parmigiano reggiano, prosciutto de parma is specific to only that region. If it is made elsewhere in a different way, it is just plain old prosciutto.

... Very pleasant in the sunshine, and loads of dogs for Joy to photograph - see her separate entry on the dogs of Parma!!

After lunch, Joy went back to the Duomo (and photos of dogs!) while Michael simply strolled around. Very relaxing. Now, the reason for a lazy day is that we have decided to add a visit to Caravaggio town while we are in Milan - we move on to there tomorrow - which will mean that the next three days are going to be ...

Petit and dainty clothed in fancy coats or little pyjama suits, big and butch, long and lanky, large and hairy, dazzling with diamante, lush with leather. Yes...they are Parma's dogs. They are everywhere, walking, carried, ambling with nose to the ground, standing their ground, are at a ...

Today we slept through the first alarm....well Joy turned it off and snuggled back down into the very comfy bed......so the net result was we started our tour of the galleries a little late. But it really didn't matter.

The Galleria Nazionale of Parma is in the Palazzo Pilotta - an expanse of building and grass with colonnades and trees about 5 minutes walk from our hotel. Of course the gallery is on the 2nd floor so there is an expanse of stairs to climb, even ...

    Leonardo da Parma!

Today was the day to visit Parma's main art gallery, and, as it turned out, the day that Joy found herself nose to nose with a drawing painted by Leonardo da Vinci. She knew that it was in the gallery but thought it would be behind armoured security glass and so on. Oh no, she was quite literally nose to nose with a da Vinci - for the second time on this trip - so she was understandably on an artisitic high when she finally emerged from the gallery. ...
