So now let’s back up to the beginning of the day.
We were up really early, since our excursion got underway at the ungodly hour of 7:15.
First stop was the most famous landmark in Athens: the Acropolis, the hill on which the Parthenon and other structures ...
... at all. We had spent most of the day lost. And I had not helped rectify the situation in the least.
So she shows us a “simple” map and sends us on our way. We head out and know we aren’t doing it right. We stop in another shop and get directions again to find out we are going the wrong way. I had looked at the map and listened to her directions where she told us only to make right turns but I kept thinking to get where she was showing ...
... But Athens wears it on it's sleeve. There's graffiti everywhere. Stray cats and dogs wander the streets. High fashion stores neighbour dingy knock-off outlets. Everywhere there's an open air, open market vibe. And, like Rome, there's ruins every few turns. It definitely feels more foreign than Italy, yet it's different again from Prague, Krakow, Budapest and the other Eastern European countries I've passed through. ...
... would give them water and power. Now it's a "nice" little neighborhood, filled to the brim with cats. I saw dozens upon dozens of them, just roaming around doing nothing. The people of the neighborhood fed them, and they had plenty of places to be safe from the tin roofs to the low trees. It was wild to see.
