The food in Hungary has been pretty good - though 'interesting' might
be a better word. Either way, there is no chance in hell Hungary was
going to play a part in my low cholesterol diet. What I don't
understand though, is how there are so few overweight people here given
the type of food that gets eaten. I only have 2 explanations for that:
One is that people manage to keep trip by smoking - I would hazard a
guess that over 50% of people ...

A touch of Hungarian history

... to cross the rivers. On the way home we were lucky enough to witness something magical.... There is a dragonfly like insect that lives near the river Tisza only and if you are lucky enough to be here on the one special day out of the year, you can witness the this amaizing mating ritual. Looks like thousands of pixies flying around you, it's out of this world. I say it't time to go home and buy a lottery ticket.

Daytrip to Szeged

Things really shut down in Europe on Sundays and Szeged was no exception. It's particularly bad in smaller towns when you're hungry and everything's closed...we felt like hobos, searching for food, and especially so when we stumbled across a Knorr van offering free soup-in-a-bun samples, and dove in!

Aside from closed shops though, there were certainly more pretty buildings, and even a lovely fountain to see!
The first day

... I learnt some words and how to count until... 3. Well, it's not so easy. I try to read signs but look what signs they have. Look at this city. How can you remember such long and impossible words? My room is really huge. It has a huge double bed and it has a balcony overlooking the yard with vines. The restaurant is really fabulous. It was so tasty.

Cities of Vojvodina

He was then *****ed at by the Malaysian girls for putting his luggage in a tenuous position. Rachel tried to speak to him in French to explain the situation, and he retorted "desolee!" I guess it was too much for him, because he paid extra to get a private room soon after. Budapest was fantastic. On our third day we met up with my sister's friend ...

... sleepless night we packed and decided to leg it. While running to the bus station the owner drove past so we jumped on the first bus praying that the Gallagher's weren't hiding around the corner with their baseball bats. It was on this bus we met a Serbian woman Veri. Bemused the bus had once again bypassed our intended destination, Sveti Stefan, she explained that Montenegrin's are well renowned for their laziness and it was unsurprising that the ...

A significant change of scenery

... stretches of bright yellow sunflowers and occasional Baroque bell towers of rural churches help to liven things up a bit though. Overall, it strongly reminded me of the time I spent hopping around Hungary on weekend breaks from studying in Budapest. Subotica is a pretty little town. Naturally its outskirts are peppered with hideous tenement blocks, but the downtown core is a charming mix of Baroque buildings, humble Hungarian-style houses and grandiose Secessionist edifices. It's the ...

Appealingly ugly

... when I looked at it. I was really disappointed to discover the gallery within closed at 1, shortly after I arrived in town and long before I got to the place. Not for the gallery itself - I don't even know what it was of - but I really wanted to look around inside and see if it could possibly match the wonderfully ugly exterior. I can only imagine. Moving on at 6.45, I assumed I would be in Szeged (just across the border into Hungary) in good time.
