      Snow in Slovakia

A travel blog entry by sallygriffiths on Jan 28, 2014

... There we planned the afternoon, which seemed to have become much colder. Chris enjoyed playing snowballs as we walked down the quiet streets keeping an eye out for suitable places to eat, after we had become hungry from the drinks in the UFO. Chris spotted a traditional Slovak themed restraunt which looked appealing and as we were browsign the menu, the waiter invoited us into the warm. We decided to stay as it seemed to tick the boxes of our requirements, so we followed ...

Over the past few days I have been in contact with my Uncle Stuart who has very kindly offered for us to stay with them today! It will be amazing to see my family, their home and have a good catch up! We didn't sleep great last night, whether it was the heat or the excited feeling In my tummy I'm not sure! The train was delayed for 3 hours, and I got to Bratislava past midnight last night (Sunday night). I meet very pleasant and likeable Slovakian people on the train, and so far the experience has been quite positive. I'm staying at Possonum Hostel. The experience has been quite average. Is highly rated as one of the top hostels in Bratislava but in my personal view I find it quite standard and a bit overpriced. At €17,50 for a bed in an 8 people dorm ...

I arrived in Vienna on Saturday night. I checked in at my dorm, and we went to Mass in German. I was pretty much the youngest person in the church by at least 40 years. It doesn't seem like the church does much to attract younger generations in Europe. The church reminded me a lot of the one I used to go to in Spain. It was not in a central part of the city and is probably not a very important church at all, ...

... to the north of the city, finding an honest-to-god comic shop (I accidentally find more of these when traveling than I can find on purpose in Vienna) on the way to Grassalkovich Palace, residence of the Slovakian president. Heading southward, we passed through Hurbanovo Square and the Church of Saints John of Matha and Felix of Valois, which must be horrible to type when trying to text people to meet you at church.

We stopped for beer and snacks (and beer) ...
