Sloth Bear Rescue Center

... the facilities greatest desire is that in 30 years time they can close the facility, meaning that no more sloth bears are being used or abused and are living naturally in the wild! As for our day at the center, the very kind and generous Sid showed us around and explained about the center. we saw the quarantine facilities where all bears are placed upon arrival. We saw the large habitats were the bears live, each ...

Birds at Bharatpur

A welcome relief from the stress and hassle of Indian cities, we went to Bharatpur to visit Keoladeo National Park which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was really amazing and we had a fantastic time. Our day did not get off to an auspicious start though. The main way to visit the park is on a cycle rickshaw, but Anna and I wanted to walk to get a feel of the park and ...

Bharatpur

... even watched a small mouse come out and forage for food just a metre away from me. A very interesting afternoon. We arrived back at the hotel just before 5pm. Ready for an easy night? Don't you believe it - remember the wedding Bhupendra went to? Well, we were all invited to the final night and had to be back out on the bus in twenty minutes. A (very) quick wash and change and we set off in the dusk with a fabulous sunset. The route takes us through ...

Fatehpur Sikri

... not much use, any guide book said pretty much the same thing, and he only brought us around to his friends that tried to sell us things. Then a man beat off the beggars for us... then asked us for money for doing so. All in all it was a pretty frustrating experience because we were in such a large group and such a target. I feel if we had had more time and been in smaller groups without a guide, it would have been a much more pleasant experience.

onto Bharaptur & a lazy day

... a group of camels walking along side the road & there were little fluffy baby ones.. very cute. We arrived in Bharaptur and it wasn't very exciting - its hot and dirty and there wasn't much too see. Our hotel was pretty far out of town and our leader told us he had a surprise for us -- the hotel had a pool.. We had a look at it -- green -- we all were sure whether to hop in or not... I had a fantastic tomato & potato curry for ...

Day 13: Taj Mahal, finally, and a train

... the effects of the sun, one consequence of which was that that at each station two or three local dudes would get out their combs and check their hair was still in the desired position. As we inched thought the outskirts of Delhi, we passed tented camp after tented camp. We hadn't seen too much really extreme poverty thus far and all the adults seemed quieter as we each observed how the other half lives. Arriving in the station, we knew that it would be busy and Cameron was primed ...

Fatehpur Sikri...a composite religion

...Ver comentario en español al final de esta pagina Fast Facts 1.5 hours (by car) South West of Agra Population = 29,000 This magnificent fortified city was once the capital of the Mughal Empire between 1571 and 1585 during the reign of Emperor Akbar. Akbar visited the Sufi Saint Shaikh Salim Christi who predicted the birth of an heir to the Mughal throne. When the prophecy came true (and Jehangir was born to Akbar), Akbar built his new capital here. Shortly after ...

Agra and the Taj!

Today we drove to Agra which took a good 4 hours including a stop on the side of the road to talk to a family making religious necklaces out of wooden beads (each has 108 beads, one for each vice). We picked up a few and I've been wearing mine ever since! I presume the 2 younger brothers of the family have been wearing the shirts I gave them ever since! We drove by Sikandra where Akbar (Mughal emperor ...
