So I finally made it to parati 4 days ago. The first two nights I stayed in a hostel and I then moved to the pousada that the wedding was being held in. The first day in Parati was quite relaxed. I just wandered around the town and did some sun bathing. I got a little bit burned but not badly. That night I went to the Pousada do Sandi to meet up with the wedding party and we went out for a few drinks. Parati is a lovely seaside town that has an old historical centre. This area is protected an...

Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil sitzmana... in the background. The roads are cobblestone -- as I actually needed to head back to the hostel to exchange my flip-flops for my hiking shoes so I don´t tweak my pathetically-weakened ankles -- and only horse carriages and bicycles are allowed in town. There are also several different children that attempt to fly small, simple kites in between the criss-crossed banners strung across the gaps from the top of the one or two story ...

Ilha Grande, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil sharkenj... the kitchen (we were the only ones who cooked basically every night). All of our old friends had moved on in the last 10 days, so the place was much quieter, but there were new people there who would become new friends in the coming days. Fiending for a home cooked meal as we didn't have access to a kitchen while on the Costa Verde, Mary cooked up another delicious Mexican fajita feast and relaxed back at home, which is how Franklin's place felt like. It was good to be back in Rio. <br>
Ilha Grande, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil chiapoe... way…but then its only day 4 of 47!! (My only concern is that the girls are far too pretty, skinny and young so you won’t see me with them in any photos!) We’ve got a driver, Suse and a tour leader, Nats, both are great and live absolutely insane lives. They are 'off the grid’ in Australia where they grew up and have spent the last 10 years running tours in South America for half the year and Africa for the other 6 months. I feel like we ...

Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil heinlisenka... and fish in sauces). Had plenty of time: at various beaches, on a schooner trip stopping at beaches only accessed by boat and at other spots where you just dived into the clear blue/green waters, ambling round the old town and pier area, eating seafood every night, caipirinhas at one or the other bars next to the square, and even a bus up into the countryside to check out a waterfall and a cachaça distillery nearby. Definitely was holiday time! Must go back again one day.
Paraty, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil aandl... half that. Saying that though apparently the streets in the town nearest the sea do regularly flood in April and May time, and you can see how the paths and roads have larger kerbs with water run off areas. You can but postcards with pictures of people in small boats rowing down the streets, pretty cool. The next day we visited a lovely beach that was nearby in a town called Trindade, full of locals and lots of restaurants lining ...
