We had to come up with a plan B and found the very pretty town of Mittenwald was close by. The buildings in this part of Bavaria are painted with murals which is quite different to other areas. We spent time wandering the streets and spending some tourist euros. We also found a good bakery/cafe and indulged ...

... we just wandered through them and got a feel for the place. The views from up there were fantastic. The weather is still quite cloudy but good enough to get some idea of the surrounding mountains. We walked back along the Inn River which is a glacial blue but not so bright as the Lech River in Fussen. It's a wide river and looks to be running quite fast......and very chilly!! Our hotel Auracher Lochl gave us drink vouchers so ...
