... the first castle, the lovely Neuschwanstein (which provided the inspiration for Walt Disney's Cinderella castle at Disneyland.) It sits well above Ludwig's childhood home, on the actual mountainside, and is therefore a not inconsiderable walk. Learning that there was a bus option that actually puts you above the castle, we opted to let the wheels on the bus go round and round, and we're very glad we did. The non-restroom part of these is clean and bright, with small food service areas for sandwiches, or for pastries, or for beverages--you can also get entrees such as spaghetti or fish. ... castle and spans a deep gorge through which a rushing river and small waterfalls flow. It was very beautiful and provided great views of the castle. We had a picnic lunch, hiked down the hill and started our drive to Linkenheim. We made it to the Herrmann home in time to go out for dinner with the whole family (except Matthias). We stayed up late having apple kuchen, playing Andreas' card game and ...

... Disney created the castle at Disneyland. But we didn't go into it because it's really such a tourist stop....several bus loads arrived just before us and the line for tickets was over a block long. We have one photo.. From a lovely cemetery in Fussen.

Our spellplatze for the night was quite large but comfortable with lots of stores within walking distance. We stayed two nights here because it rained all day ...
