Last day in Guatemala City (Guate) and I have had a great time. I am staying with Rodger Boldán and Doña Emma, my friend Geril Garcías grandparents. Guatemala City is kinda what I expected in a Latin American big city after spendning four months in Buenos (the extremely rich mixed with the poor, skyscrappers casting shadows on shanty towns) but still has its own distinct charactersitics. My first day, last Friday, I decided to check out the north of the ...

We load into our van and pretty much demand food soon before we head out on our ride. After discussing options (McDonalds ...
... expensive things and I was hoping that you would be able to help me. Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated as I am entirely lost and no one currently knows that I am even in Antigua.¨ Fortunatley, they were kind enough to put my passport, ATM card and cash in their safe...while I wandered a bit more, in search of my host family. While their safe really looked more to me like the one guy´s pocket, they assured me that my things ...

Guatemala City, Western Highlands, Guatemala jaynichvolodov... walls, old wooden doors, thousands of run-down churches with a few gringo cafe´s thrown in. While we were there the town had a power cut which practically shut it down. The McDonalds (hard to believe but there was one)shut and the locals cued up until the power came back. We also found an internet cafe in the barbers which was different.
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala sainty1... I think on the way out someone in Guatemala had taken the wrong coupon out - this was the really the extent of our complications all trip. Back in Guatemala City & the ritual giving of Liz's travel clothes to the housekeepers and then we broke one of rules - we couldn't resist going into an Applebee's we stumbled upon. A real American TGIF look alike in Guatemala - it was just like in Florida (& the ...
Guatemala City, Western Highlands, Guatemala pilgrim143... wee and then I went with them to Rio Dulce!! They had sensibly booked accommodation before going there, I on the other hand was planning to wing it...generally not a problem, but on this occasion the bus was delayed by roadworks and we didn't get to our destination until 11pm. So I went with my new friends to the Hacienda Tijax who fortunately had a bed for me :o) What a great place - wooden lodgings in the jungle with a swimming pool - nice!!
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala cat2222... seemed the way out of Lake Atitlan. Antigua was the Spaniards first choice as a capital city and as such it depicts magnificent architecture and has many more churches, monasteries and cathedrals than any other town in Guatemala. It is nestled between three volcanoes, all of them over 3700 m high. You need at least three days to visit all the churches of Antigua, but in one day, you can see the most impressive ones. They are all beautiful. The biggest and richest ...
