... explained. No book in English to help so stumbled through reading long explanations written in Spanish. Easier to translate the written than the rapid-fire spoken word. Had lunch/dinner in a very nice restaurant to celebrate Terry's birthday today and to wish Rose a Bon Voyage. Terry and I took a shuttle back to our home away from home in Antigua. Driving rain all the way back.
Guatemala City, Western Highlands, Guatemala nomadgal... before us. It was incredible to see. A huge stream of lava slowly making its way downhill. We trecked a bit further and came right up to the side of the river. The heat coming from it was unbelievable. 2000 degrees celcius apparently. We were all sorry we hadn´t bought some of the marshmallows they were trying to sell us at the gates to the park!!! It was amazing though to be that close to the lava and that close to a volcano. I thought of my dad alot, how ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala leskovar... be buying a belt today!!!!

Anwen’s friend John met us at Guatemala City airport and had our own little minibus waiting. When we made it to the hostel it was 7am ish back home – and I have never ever seen a bed so inviting… we were both fast asleep before our heads touched the pillow! Today we will explore Antigua (after Anwen has finished sewing a button on her shorts!) before getting an overnight bus up to Flores and Tikal tonight.

Antigua, Guatemala mymzy... for a small fee, to let us stay after the site shut as it was full moon. What an atmosphere walking back to our hotel in the moonlight through ancient temples while the cicadas hummed and spider monkeys grunted. We then left for Belize and some first class diving. If you have seen the photo of Belize you will see something called the Blue Hole. it is a huge sink hole in the sea. It is very deep and looks like a vivid blue eye. We dived ...

Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala aventura... though. We are beginning to realise that our diet will mainly consist of chicken, beans, rice and tortillas. Plus everything also comes with guacamole. It´s not so bad. Thought about getting a bus to the next town but it´s so complicated, especially with bags, that we gave in and paid for the over-expensive shuttle, door to door.
Guatemala City, Western Highlands, Guatemala sainty1... from Belize and The Peten Jungle on Usumacinta River). She has never been to Guat City or the highlands. Guatemala City, Western Highlands, Guatemala thomasgillam... gave me a five-year multiple-entry visa. They didn't think my hair would grow out before five years was up? It did. That was 1977. So enchanted was I with the place that I went back almost every year until about... twelve years ago. I even made a tentative stab at expatriation in 1983 at the ripe old age of twenty-eight, on sabbatical from my under-employed life as a carpenter in Portland, OR, when I had the brilliant idea to import handicrafts ...
