... as friendly and welcoming as the rest of Malaysia has been. We were the only westerners there. It was all Malaysians, most of them women in pretty much full Muslim garb. So we were the only ones with much skin on show. If this had been the UK, and roles reversed, I have no doubt the Malaysian women would have got **** for being different, for jumping in the waters in full dress. The countdown reached zero, people in the crowd shot out streamers, fireworks went off at various points around town... and the dignitaries onstage continued to wait patiently with their gong while the emcees talked as if to kill time. Eventually, after a couple of minutes, there was a break in the fireworks, and the people on stage led everyone in a second countdown. ...

I was up until 2am figuring out the easiest way of how to cross into Malaysia and a rough idea of the Malacca area. I couldn't find a bus service that accepted COA (cash on arrival) And the receptionist then suggested I catch a public bus to the Golden Mile Complex, easy enough, bedtime. That was the first night I'd been put in a dorm that had people coming and going at all hours of the night. I'd had enough of trying to get to sleep by 7am and got up to head to the coach services. ...
