Hotel Portofino Palma

Die letzte Woche vor unserer Reise ist angebrochen. Wir geniessen noch immer herlichstes Wetter in einem November der so warm ist wie seit 30 Jahren nicht mehr. Winterpullis? Jacken? Nicht die Spur! Kofferpacken - jaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Nos queda una semana hasta que nos vamos. Aqui disfrutamos el Noviembre mas calido hace 30 años! Ni bufanda, ni chaqueta - de maravilla! Bueno, vamos a por las maletas! Siiiiiiiiii

And at long last we are on our way ... can't quite believe we are actually starting this journey after all the work, planning, talking .... And we know we've been to San Telmo many times before but this time it is different!! And so good to have Simon's old friends Max & Linsey onboard - after all they were really the people responsible for him ending up in Port d'Andratx to begin with.

It takes awhile to moor the yacht stern to, (the back end up against the dock) and to get out all the fenders (large air filled pads that keep the boats from rubbing up against each other and to setup the passarelle (like a long plank that is motorized with hand rails on each side). By the time we were able to go to shore we were dressed and ready. Several of the crew members had been here before so they were our guides to finding the dance clubs ...

We arrived in Cala de Calobra around 5:30. We anchored in the small bay and took a tender to shore. The little village has a small pier along one side of a steep hill and the village is crowded on the hillside raising between two much larger and steeper hills. The whole thing looks like some Hollywood set because of its idyllic setting on the small bay. There are several bars and restaurants where we got drinks and ate an early dinner.

We left Ciutadella around 8 AM to cross back over to Mallorco and into the Bahai de Pollença. It is a deep cut and large protected bay on the northwest corner of the island. We anchored out in the bay, away from other boats and the crew setup everything for watersports. Since everyone was more spread out and busy with different ...

... Palma. Travelling further south along the coast is the residential village of Illetas, quiet, as it is not on the main road and has two fine hotels. The Melia de Mar is a five star hotel on the seafront and has been recently refurbished to a high standard ...

Maths in the square at night, being awesome at the quiz, teaching it to swim, vodka and top trumps each night, the boy crying about play club, the boy loving play club, the convertible red beast (megane), fred dancing with me, all the AWFUL people that go to those places (us not included)

... people, anything is possible. She pointed out the huge cathedral to me and I remarked that I would probably be going to see it in a few weeks when my cruise docks here for a day. Every time we would drive past the port I would jokingly point to my "barco" which was waiting for me. We came home and Romy taught me how to make aioli and calamari. I was surprised that any of the calamari even made it to the table with how tasty it was, so fresh and tender ...

i visit spain so often but I had my first trip there at the tender age of about 8 months! haha!

needless to say I can't remember that particular trip but the subsequent ones really hit the spot with me!

I love Majorca because it has something for everybody. Mad nightlife, beautiful beaches and scenery, lovely people and not as "high rise" as main land Spain.

As my parent's friendships, through their travels and business associates, broadened so did our homes away from home and it was the next trips to the island of Mallorca, and our stays with the Soldainis that bested the Barcelona trip.
