... look. As we parked an old man aged 86 came to greet us, he spoke very good English and seemed genuinely pleased to meet us. The cemetery was quite large, it was very noticeable that a good percentage of the graves were for 'Unknown Soldier' very sad. We still had a few hours to kill so we walked around Souda, a run down sort of place with a quay side factory that makes animal feed from grain, it gives off a strange smell, a toasted grainy alcoholic smell, it's ...

The ruins were unearthed in 1900 by Sir Arthur Evans, he was so enthralled with his discovery that he spent 35 years and £250,000 of his own money excavating and reconstructing it. ... wondering what had arrived. Once they had moved on we got out to take a walk, we walked up the road passing some very strange rock formations, we could clearly see stalactites hanging down, mostly broken, behind them were large cave like recesses, they looked like big teeth. We tried taking a track close to the river but where the crossing to the other side was, was flooded. We turned back and continued up the road, taking a right turn ...

... up to the fortress, passing the church which had a very ornate gateway with a clock and bell built in it. We explored the ruins and walked across the headland the views of both sides of the town were good from here and we could see the fresh snow on the mountain tops. It was very windy and the gusts buffeted us about. We walked back down and on to the sea front, the waves were pounding over the sea defences on to the road, we stopped to take some pictures, ...
