Rua 25 de Abril Penalva do Castelo, Beiras, Portugal, 3550-135
... timetable as "to be modernised". In no time at all, our bare legs sticking to the brown vinyl seats (why is it always brown vinyl?), our rucksacks precariously overhead on a rack that was a little too small and the carriage full of 'over-excited'/unruly children, we were starting our picturesque journey up the valley. Still, the alarm bells tinkling distantly in the background failed to drown out the annoying and frankly hideous ...
Lamego, Northern Portugal, Portugal warm... a bend and over a bridge, a nice walk. The idea was to look for some for sale signs on vehicles. During this walk we realized that the Serra de Estrela natural reserve is very beautiful and we would definitely have done some trekking here if it wasn´t so very hot during the day. Chilly at night though in the mountains. We were wishing we hadn´t sent our Andean woolie Alpaca clothes home when we discovered that the Portugal mountain nights were so cold. Camping and ...

Carregal do Sal, Portugal tiagosgdamazingly beautiful area with a river running thru green hills, dotted with small portugese white washed villages and vineyards which are dug into the siderd of teh hills. the rain didn't stop us from doing a couple of winery tours and climbing up 600 odd steps to see a beautiful church.... although we did find ourselves inside bars and bakeries samling portugals finest ports and pastries .... and the chinese restaurant of course (habits die hard).
Lamego, Portugal salkelely... Really steep. And I must admit that as I approached the place where I was to begin my climb, I was thinking up all sorts of excuses as to why I shouldn't be doing it. But even while these thoughts were going through my head, I knew that I couldn't and wouldn't turn back. So, following the little red dashes of paint and the piles of rocks the shepherds use as trailmarkers, I slowly made my way up the mountain. I made sure not to look down very often and to rest when my legs ...
Covilha/Penhas de Saude/Torre/Maneigas (Serra da Estrella), Portugal bootsmade4wlkinAfter two days in Lisbon, we took Miguel's car and drove to Douro region. We stop during the driving to eat a pork in Meta dos Leitoes, very very good, and as the tradition asks we drunk red sparkling wine (not so good)!! The rang over started 30 minutes after we finish the meal!!!! Renata had to drive because Miguel and I drank 1 bottle of the wine. In Douro we stayed in a city named Vila Real ...
Douro, Portugal alhadeff... the mornings and looks like a lake. Adam also has a vegetable garden and two personable ducks. Long-haired Adam is half-gypsy and likes living with nature. He'd accepted my Elaine and me as farm-volunteering members of the WWOOF program. Thirty-eight-year-old Adam joked, in British humor, that Elaine's and my duties on his farm were going to be: "Digging holes ... filling in holes ... digging holes ... filling in holes." Filling in holes is body ...
Sacoes, Portugal modernoddyseus... buildings, you'll find the nicest cleanest homes that look like they've just been built. The city center is a jewel once again, with mostly new and tiled buildings, gardens, a fountain and even a castle. Surprising also is the number of BMWs, VWs, and Mercedes cruising the streets-drug dealers, drug money, Uli says. We go to Guimaraez to pick up a friend's car that we'll use to get me to ...
